MongoDB Atlas is a data platform that runs demanding applications, including real-time gaming, financial transactions, and AI workloads. Its scalability capabilities help customers scale Atlas deployments up, down, and horizontally.
Responsibilities
•Set the vision and strategy for Atlas cluster scalability and translate them into prioritized release bets
•Own the roadmap for vertical scaling, autoscaling, horizontal scaling, and the operational and observability surfaces customers rely on during scaling events
•Make difficult prioritization decisions, including rejecting initiatives with customer or leadership support, and own their consequences
•Build deep technical understanding of Atlas scaling internals and use it to shape requirements and tradeoffs with Engineering
•Represent product direction to senior engineering leaders, field partners, and enterprise customers
•Engage with customers and field partners to understand scaling pain points, failure patterns, and moments that affect customer trust
•Define scalability success metrics, build analytics to surface issues early, and use data to make timely decisions under ambiguity
•Lead cross-functional execution with Engineering, Design, Docs, Support, Marketing, and Sales to deliver reliable scaling experiences and accelerate adoption
•Mentor junior PMs, contribute to strategic product thinking across teams, and influence leadership-level product decisions without direct reports
•Deliver year-over-year growth on Atlas scalability metrics
Requirements
•5+ years of product management experience with technically complex, infrastructure-level products
•Demonstrated success owning enterprise-grade technical products end to end and delivering measurable customer and business outcomes
•Technical fluency in architecture, failure modes, performance characteristics, and tradeoffs, and the ability to connect technical decisions to customer outcomes
•Track record of taking products from 0 to 1 and from 1 to 50
•Strong customer orientation and regular engagement with customers and field teams, translating their input into requirements and roadmap decisions
•Excellent written and verbal communication, including adapting high-quality artifacts and messages to different audiences
•Strong analytical skills and metrics rigor, including defining success metrics, instrumenting and debugging analytics, and using data to inform judgment
•Demonstrated speed and conviction in decision-making under ambiguity, including making difficult calls, cutting scope, and holding a position under pushback
•Desire to contribute to Go-to-Market, Marketing, and Sales enablement
Nice to have
•Hands-on experience with databases, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure platforms
•Product ownership of developer tools, infrastructure platforms, or mission-critical SaaS for enterprise customers
•Experience with autoscaling, capacity planning, sharding, or similar elasticity problems
