About the Team
The team develops and supports enterprise IBM Cognos Analytics solutions, including custom applications, integrations, authentication solutions, automation utilities, and administrative tools that interact with Cognos services and the Cognos Content Store.
Responsibilities
•Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java applications using the IBM Cognos SDK
•Develop applications that interact with Cognos services and manage Cognos Content Store objects
•Automate Cognos administrative and content-management activities
•Develop solutions for managing report parameters, prompts, schedules, jobs, and report outputs
•Implement asynchronous request and conversation handling, authentication solutions, trusted sign-on, and identity-management integrations
•Develop reusable Java libraries and service layers; implement exception handling, logging, auditing, retries, and error recovery
•Optimize SDK applications and diagnose SDK, web-service, Java, network, dispatcher, and authentication errors
•Install, configure, administer, monitor, and support development, test, QA, staging, and production Cognos environments
•Configure Cognos application tiers, dispatchers, gateways, Content Managers, Content Stores, namespaces, authentication providers, and data sources
•Manage Cognos users, groups, roles, permissions, schedules, jobs, report delivery, and saved outputs
•Review logs, configure logging and tracing, manage log retention, and diagnose platform problems
•Perform Cognos deployments, migrations, backups, recovery, upgrades, and fix-pack activities; test compatibility with customizations
•Maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery configurations and document architecture, deployments, and operational processes
•Diagnose performance and availability issues across Cognos, Java, databases, networks, authentication, operating systems, and report design
•Analyze service utilization, report execution, Content Store performance, JVM usage, and application-server behavior
•Tune Cognos services and concurrency settings based on measured workloads
•Develop logging and monitoring to trace operations across Java applications and Cognos services
Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
•8–10 years of experience
•Strong professional Java development experience and knowledge of object-oriented programming, collections, generics, concurrency, JDBC, SQL, XML, JSON, HTTP/HTTPS, and web services
•Experience with IBM Cognos Analytics and the Cognos SDK or similar enterprise APIs
•Understanding of Cognos Content Manager, Content Store, Cognos services, object models, SearchPaths, report execution, and SDK exception handling
•Strong SQL and relational database skills; Microsoft SQL Server is mandatory
•Understanding of Cognos architecture, distributed environments, dispatchers, gateways, high availability, authentication namespaces, scheduling, logging, diagnostics, deployments, migrations, backups, and upgrades
•Experience troubleshooting enterprise applications and Windows and/or Linux server environments
•Strong understanding of authentication and authorization
•Ability to analyze complex issues across application, database, network, and infrastructure layers
•Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document technical designs, configurations, and operational procedures
•Ability to work independently on complex technical problems and communicate effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders
•Use supported Cognos APIs and administration mechanisms whenever possible; direct modification of Cognos Content Store database tables should not normally be used for application development
