Responsibilities
•Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java applications using the IBM Cognos SDK
•Develop applications that interact with Cognos services and the Content Store, and automate administrative and content-management activities
•Create, modify, move, copy, delete, and manage Cognos objects, reports, schedules, jobs, and outputs
•Implement asynchronous requests, reusable Java libraries, service layers, error handling, logging, auditing, retries, and recovery
•Optimize SDK applications and diagnose SDK, SOAP/web-service, Java, network, dispatcher, and authentication errors
•Develop custom Cognos authentication solutions and providers, trusted sign-on, and integrations with identity-management systems
•Install, configure, administer, monitor, and support Cognos environments across development, test, QA, staging, and production
•Configure distributed environments, gateways, application tiers, dispatchers, Content Managers, namespaces, authentication providers, data sources, and security
•Manage schedules, jobs, bursting, report delivery, saved outputs, logging, deployments, migrations, backups, recovery, upgrades, and fix packs
•Monitor Cognos health, services, queues, JVM utilization, report execution, and logs; diagnose platform and application problems
•Troubleshoot performance, availability, report execution, database connectivity, SQL, JVM, and SDK application issues
•Tune Cognos services and concurrency settings based on measured workload
•Develop logging and monitoring to trace operations across Java applications and Cognos services
•Document Cognos architecture, configuration, deployments, and operational processes
Requirements
•8–10 Years of experience
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
•Strong professional Java development experience and knowledge of object-oriented programming, collections, generics, concurrency, JDBC, SQL, XML, JSON, HTTP/HTTPS, and web services
•Experience with IBM Cognos Analytics and the IBM Cognos SDK or similar enterprise APIs
•Understanding of Cognos Content Manager, Content Store, SDK services, object model, queries, reports, scheduling, and security
•Strong SQL and relational database skills
•Experience troubleshooting enterprise applications across application, database, network, and infrastructure layers
•Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments
•Strong understanding of authentication and authorization
•Ability to work independently on complex technical problems
•Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document technical designs, configurations, and operational procedures
•Use supported Cognos APIs and administration mechanisms; direct modification of Content Store database tables should not normally be used for application development
