FA Lead

In short

This role leads failure analysis (FA) for Apple-related optical/consumer electronics products at ZEISS, serving as the primary technical liaison for high-level customer reviews, quality audits, and major complaints. It requires managing a team of FA engineers, driving yield improvement and defect reduction programs, overseeing NPI risk control, and coordinating cross-departmental resources. Candidates need 6+ years of optical/consumer electronics FA experience with 2+ years managing teams, deep knowledge of quality tools (8D, FMEA, DOE, Six Sigma) and statistical software, plus fluent English for direct technical communication with Apple-level stakeholders.

Responsibility
Main Task
1.High-level customer technical liaison & accountability for major issues
As ZEISS's FA technical contact, lead Apple's monthly/quarterly high-level reviews, quality audits, major customer complaints, mass failure, and mass production crisis issue reporting and conclusion delivery. Responsible for the technical explanation, logical closure, and countermeasure justification of all high-risk issues on the customer side, delivering the final technical conclusion on behalf of the company, managing customer expectations, and preventing quality risk escalation or complaint downgrades.
2.Coordinate the team's failure analysis system & daily work management
Coordinate the FA team's daily task assignment, scheduling, progress control, and work quality audits. Establish team FA analysis standards, judgment criteria, report specifications, and experimental verification processes; unify analysis logic and output standards across the team to eliminate analysis deviation, repeated conclusions, and report gaps. Responsible for new hire mentoring, skill grading, work review, and team capability tier building, improving the overall team's efficiency in tackling difficult problems.
3.Lead resolution of difficult/recurring/mass failures, deliver top-level solution approaches
Fully responsible for difficult failures, stubborn low-yield issues, intermittent failures, and mass process drift issues that engineers cannot close. Based on optical principles, process logic, material properties, and statistical analysis, deliver top-level investigation approaches, verification plans, root cause hypotheses, and permanent improvement strategies, leading the team to achieve closure and completely resolve long-standing bottleneck issues.
4.Lead yield strategy planning, defect reduction, and annual quality target delivery
Not limited to single-point improvements; responsible for planning the overall project yield improvement roadmap, performing defect stratification and failure mode classification based on mass production big data, and identifying process pain points. Lead annual/quarterly yield improvement initiatives, defect-halving projects, and PPM reduction projects, coordinating cross-departmental resources (PE/ME/RD/SQE/Supply chain) to drive systematic process optimization, parameter fixation, incoming material control upgrades, and equipment capability improvement.
5.NPI new product introduction risk control & mass production prevention system building
Deeply participate in all stages of new product R&D, sampling, trial production, and mass production ramp-up, proactively anticipating optical bonding, coating, assembly, stress, reliability, and environmental failure risks. Establish an NPI-stage failure prevention mechanism, critical risk checklist, and trial production FA review mechanism, reducing new product mass production defect rates from the source and avoiding mass quality incidents for new products.
6.Standardization, technical knowledge base, and project experience consolidation
Lead the team's typical failure case library, advanced 8D templates, DOE experiment library, and failure root cause model consolidation. Unify external customer reporting language, technical justification logic, and problem review mechanisms, forming a reproducible, iterative FA technical system that supports long-term stable mass production.
7.Cost control & quantification of improvement benefits
Possess mass production cost awareness; all improvement plans balance quality, yield, capacity, and cost. Quantify the yield gains, cost savings, and risk reduction data of each improvement round, forming improvement benefit reports acceptable to the customer.
8.Cross-departmental project advancement, resource coordination, conflict resolution
As the person ultimately responsible for issues, coordinate engineering, process, equipment, material, and supplier resources, drive resolution of cross-departmental bottleneck issues, resolve department barriers and resource shortages causing issue delays, and ensure 100% on-time closure of all anomalies.
