Viking EMEA

Business development manager in data centers

In short

This remote role focuses on business development and technical specification sales for fire protection systems (detection and suppression) within the European data center market, targeting MEP consultants, architects, and hyperscale/colocation operators. The company is Viking EMEA, a long-established fire protection systems provider. It requires 5–7+ years of relevant specification sales experience, an engineering degree, deep knowledge of data center infrastructure and fire protection standards, and extensive travel (40-50%) across Europe.

About the Role
The European Data Center BDM will drive long-term revenue growth by building deep relationships with design influencers, MEP consultants, architects, and end-user engineering teams. The primary goal is to ensure our entire suite of fire protection systems (detection and suppression) is embedded as the standard written specification for new builds and major retrofits across Europe.
Responsibilities
•Early-Stage Specification Engineering: Intercept projects during the early design phases. Work directly with engineers to write specifications tailored around Viking's solutions' benefits (detection, water mist and clean agent gaseous suppression).
•Key Account Management (Design Influencers): Systematically manage relationships with Tier-1 international MEP firms and the internal infrastructure engineering teams of major Colocation (Equinix, Digital Realty) and Hyperscale operators, through a solution driven approach.
•Cross-Border Coordination: The BDM must coordinate seamlessly between consultants, investors, local responsible and regional contractors, with Viking internally, cooperating with product managers and local country sales teams to ensure that when a project specified by the BDM goes to tender, the local team captures the physical purchase order.
•Technical Advocacy & Content Delivery: Present technical papers at major industry forums (e.g., Data Center World Europe, DCD). Work with product management and the internal technical support team to provide support to consultants.
•Regulatory & Market Intelligence: Track evolving European codes and standards (e.g., EU Green Deal sustainability metrics, EN 54 updates, NFPA 75/76 trends, and regional building codes) to position Viking's offerings as future-proof compliance solutions.
Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Fire Protection Engineering. A proven, deep technical equivalent in fire systems design is highly valued.
•5–7+ years of business development or technical specification sales experience within commercial fire protection, critical HVAC, or industrial infrastructure.
•Deep familiarity with data center infrastructure configurations, Uptime Institute Tier classifications, and international fire protection norms (EN 15004, CEA 4001, NFPA 75/76 and VdS guidelines).
•Professional fluency in English is mandatory.
•Able to build strong relationships and networks through trust and integrity.
•Self-starter, well organized, able to prioritize and gets things done.
•A listener and able to influence, motivate and convince when needed.
•Result oriented with a strong sense of commitment to deliver.
