# About us
Compensation is one of the key levers for attracting and retaining talented people, yet most companies struggle to get it right. They simply have no choice but to rely on poor data and imperfect tools when making pay decisions. That's why we created Ravio.
We help some of the world's most innovative and ambitious companies build strong teams and achieve their goals through improved compensation. Our goal is to bring compensation into the modern era by creating the perfect real-time compensation solution. We are passionate about ensuring everyone gets what they deserve, regardless of their background or circumstances. We believe that when compensation is done right, everyone wins.
Ravio is growing fast, which means you can grow with us. Joining a startup at an early stage and scaling it into a global product is one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences in a career. If this sounds exciting to you, you're in the right place.
# The Role
We're looking for Ravio's first in-house legal counsel with strong privacy expertise. You will be responsible for core legal documentation — from customer contracts to data processing terms and privacy notices — and will become the main point of contact for our external legal support. You will be a key contributor to Ravio's senior leadership team, advising on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, and will work closely with the commercial, product, people, and data teams to keep Ravio's legal position up to date as the product and business grow. You will also be the named contact in governance processes such as our whistleblowing system.
Beyond core legal work, you will be actively involved in certain compliance operations, including supporting the annual SOC 2 audit and other compliance projects as they arise. This role suits someone equally comfortable drafting contracts and working through audit details.
This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who wants ownership from day one. You will work independently most of the time, supported by an external law firm for specialized and overflow work, and you'll have a real opportunity to shape the development of the legal and compliance function at Ravio as it scales.
# Key Responsibilities
Contracts and Commercial
•Overseeing Ravio's corporate actions (shareholder and investor matters, board documentation, administration of share schemes, M&A/licensing deals, etc.)
•Handling legal matters related to employment relationships
•Keeping our Terms of Service, DPA, and bespoke data processing terms up to date with current operations, product changes, and specific customer requirements, acting as a commercial partner
•Maintaining a tracker of contract changes, capturing liability and risk under bespoke terms
•Legal review of corporate and commercial sections of our contract workflow and checking bespoke order forms
Data Protection and Privacy
•Confirming that our Technical and Organisational Measures (TOMs) and Data Processing Provisions (DPPs) remain accurate in line with current data flows and product changes, working closely with the technical team
•Keeping our Privacy Policy up to date as the website and platform evolve
•Updating privacy notices for candidates and employees in connection with changes to hiring and HR processes
•Reviewing and maintaining our Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and Record of Processing Activities (ROPA) as the product evolves
Governance and External Relations
•Acting as the named recipient in Ravio's whistleblowing process
•Maintaining records of our trademarks
•Managing the relationship with our external legal counsel for ad hoc and ongoing legal support
•Confirming annual renewal of our ICO registration
Compliance and Audit Support
•Coordinating the SOC 2 certification cycle (and ISO, if applicable): organizing auditor work and schedule, managing access to the Vanta audit
•Handling day-to-day administration of Vanta: policy reviews, new and departing employee checks, vendor and risk reviews
•Handling due diligence and security questionnaire requests from sales that go beyond our self-service materials
•Supporting other compliance projects as they arise, such as improving data deletion and anonymization processes
# About You
•Qualified lawyer (England and Wales) or equivalent, with several years' post-qualification experience (PQE): not a newly qualified lawyer, but this is not a senior or leadership position
•Deep knowledge of UK/EU data protection and privacy law (UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018) and their application to a B2B SaaS product
•Genuinely willing to work on both hands-on compliance and audit tasks and legal advisory work, not just advisory work
•Confidence in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, DPAs, and customer terms with minimal oversight
•A practical, commercially minded approach: you know when to push back and when to find an acceptable compromise
•Confident management of the external counsel relationship and getting the most out of a retainer arrangement
•Strong stakeholder management skills; you can translate legal and compliance risks into plain language for non-legal teams
•Comfortable being the sole in-house lawyer, at least initially, and ready to build processes from scratch rather than inherit them
Nice to have
•Familiarity with SOC 2/ISO frameworks or GRC tools such as Vanta (or quick willingness to learn)
•Recognized privacy qualification (e.g. IAPP CIPP/E), though not required
•Experience with DORA or other cross-border regulatory frameworks
•Experience working in-house at a SaaS or technology company
# Compensation and Benefits
•£65,000 – £85,000
•Equity in the company (everyone gets meaningful equity in Ravio)
•25 days paid holiday + bank holidays + 4 wellness days (use anytime, no questions asked!)
•Pension contribution scheme with matching up to 6%
•£60 monthly wellness allowance (invest in your physical wellbeing on us)
•Private medical insurance
•Income protection insurance (for full peace of mind in case of illness or disability)
•20 weeks fully paid parental leave for the birthing parent and 8 weeks for the non-birthing parent
# What You'll Get
•The opportunity to be part of an early team at a category-defining company, backed by a strong roster of world-class investors
•An inclusive working environment characterized by high levels of trust, respect, and integrity
•The opportunity to work closely with and learn from the founders and an ambitious team of smart, driven people
•A high degree of autonomy and the opportunity for rapid professional growth
•While we're very focused on our work, we also know how to have fun and don't take ourselves too seriously
