GE Vernova

Stage ingénieur traitement de données diélectriques

In short

This is an engineering internship at GE Vernova's Grid Solutions site in Villeurbanne, France, within the high-voltage gas-insulated circuit breaker R&D team, focused on building and extending a Python-based tool for processing and statistically analyzing dielectric test data (including CSV files), with code structuring, documentation, and unit testing. It best suits an engineering or university student (Bac+4/Bac+5) in data science, computer science, applied math or statistics, with solid Python basics, some stats/ML notions, and ideally some R and Git exposure. The role requires close interaction with business experts and no relocation assistance is provided.

Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is a global energy company organized into three segments: Power, Wind, and Electrification. With over 130 years of experience solving global challenges, GE Vernova is well positioned to play a leading role in the energy transition, continuing to electrify the world while working to decarbonize it, with more than 70,000 employees across over 100 countries. GE Vernova's Grid Solutions segment provides advanced grid technologies and systems, enabling power transmission and distribution from the point of generation to the point of consumption, and supports a secure, decarbonized energy transition.
At its industrial site in Villeurbanne (France), Grid Solutions designs, tests, and manufactures high-voltage circuit breakers for its national and international customers.
Job Description
The internship will take place within the research center for new technologies, specifically in the gas-insulated high-voltage circuit breaker development team. The intern will participate in building a tool for processing and analyzing data on new low-carbon-footprint high-voltage switchgear projects.
The main technology currently used in high-voltage switchgear is based on SF6 gas. Beyond its exceptional technical characteristics, it is also the gas with the most powerful global warming potential (1kg of SF6 = 25,200kg CO2 equivalent). It represents 1% of global emissions. To support the energy transition and contribute to achieving emissions reduction targets, GE Vernova is developing a new range of SF6-free products.
As part of the analysis of dielectric test data, the intern will contribute to developing a data processing tool reusable by the team. The work will notably consist of taking over existing Python code and developing new features according to the needs of project teams, while structuring it according to internal development standards.
This internship offers an opportunity to participate in a concrete project combining data processing, statistical analysis, software structuring, and interaction with subject-matter experts.
Missions
The intern's main missions will be:
•Develop new statistical data analysis features in an existing tool (Python)
•Structure and standardize the code according to internal development and quality standards
•Perform data processing from test data, particularly from CSV files
•Participate in statistical data analysis (understanding/use of R code appreciated)
•Format results and develop appropriate visualizations
•Perform code validation and develop unit tests
•Write associated technical and user documentation
•Interact with subject-matter experts to properly understand functional needs and the data being processed
Education
Engineering school or university, Bac+4 / Bac+5 level, with a possible specialization in:
•data science
•computer science
•applied mathematics
•statistics
Required Knowledge
•Good basics in Python
•Knowledge of data processing
•Ability to understand existing code and evolve it
•Notions of statistics and/or machine learning
•Rigor in software development
•Knowledge of the R language is a plus
•Prior experience with Git and CSV file manipulation is appreciated
