hedgehog lab

Senior DevOps Engineer

In short

Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer role at hedgehog lab, a ~100-person digital product consultancy, designing and running cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines for client products built in TypeScript, Node and Python. You'll work in project teams of 5-15 people across public and private sector clients in retail, health tech and financial services, moving between projects rather than staying on one platform. Requires hands-on production experience with a major cloud provider, infrastructure as code, CI/CD tooling and containers/orchestration, plus experience working with clients or non-technical stakeholders on technical decisions; Terraform, Kubernetes and multi-cloud experience are nice to have. Hybrid role requiring being based within 50 miles of one of the company's UK offices.

# Senior DevOps Engineer
You're probably the person who gets called when a release breaks. Yet you rarely get a say in how the platform is built.
Here, you'll have a real say in it.
What's in it for you
•You'll help shape how infrastructure, pipelines and environments get built on your projects, from early client conversations to go-live.
•You'll move between different clients and problems, so you won't spend years on one platform.
•You'll help set the DevOps standards used across projects, so your ideas go further than one client.
Who you'll be doing it for
You'll join hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy with 20 years of experience. They're around 100 people, B Corp and Great Place to Work certified, and backed by a growth capital investor.
Your clients will be public and private sector organisations going through digital transformation, from moving to a new tech stack to building an AI platform from scratch. They include retail, health tech and financial services businesses.
You'll work in project teams of 5 to 15 people, alongside agentic engineers, software engineers, QA and designers.
What you'll be doing
•You'll join as a Senior Cloud Engineer, which is what they call their DevOps engineers.
•You'll design and run cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP for products built in TypeScript, Node and Python.
•You'll build the CI/CD pipelines that let teams release often and safely, and manage it all as code so environments stay secure, monitored and cost effective.
•You'll work with clients and project teams on technical decisions and trade-offs.
Benefits and perks
•28 days holiday plus bank holidays
•Five paid Impact Days a year for learning, volunteering or trying something new
•Two wellbeing days a year, a wellbeing budget and free counselling
•Learning budget plus time for training and conferences
•Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave
Where you'll work
Whilst there's no set number of days you're required to be in the office each week, the company really values spending time together in person, both as a team and with clients. There will be times when you'll need to be in one of the offices or at a client site for important meetings, workshops and key moments.
To make that work, you'll need to be based within 50 miles of one of the offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or London.
Experience you'll need
Essential:
•Running infrastructure in production on AWS, Azure or GCP
•Infrastructure as code
•CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI
•Containers and orchestration such as Docker or ECS
•Working with clients or non-technical stakeholders on technical decisions
Nice to have:
•Working across more than one of AWS, Azure and GCP
•Terraform
•Kubernetes in production
•Working in a consultancy or agency
