hedgehog lab

Lead Cloud Engineer

In short

Lead Cloud Engineer role at hedgehog lab, a ~100-person digital product consultancy, owning cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) for client products built in TypeScript, Node and Python. You'll design CI/CD pipelines, manage infrastructure as code, mentor a senior DevOps engineer, and set DevOps standards while working directly with clients across retail, health tech and financial services. Requires production experience with a major cloud provider, IaC, CI/CD tooling, containers/orchestration, and mentoring and client-facing communication skills; must be based within 50 miles of Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or London.

What's in it for you
You'll shape how infrastructure, pipelines and environments get built on your projects, from the first client conversation to go-live.
You'll move between different clients and problems, so you won't spend years on one platform.
You'll work alongside and mentor a senior DevOps engineer, and the standards you set will become how we work.
Who you'll be doing it for
You'll join hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy with 20 years of experience. We're around 100 people, B Corp and Great Place to Work certified, and backed by a growth capital investor.
Your clients will be public and private sector organisations going through digital transformation, from moving to a new tech stack to building an AI platform from scratch. They include retail, health tech and financial services businesses.
You'll work in project teams of 5 to 15 people, alongside agentic engineers, software engineers, QA and designers.
What you'll be doing
You'll own the cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP for products built in TypeScript, Node and Python, from design through to running it day to day.
You'll build the CI/CD pipelines that let teams release often and safely, and manage it all as code so environments stay secure, monitored and cost effective.
You'll talk clients through technical decisions and trade-offs, and set the DevOps standards other projects follow.
Benefits and perks

•Five paid Impact Days a year for learning, volunteering or trying something new
•Two wellbeing days a year, a wellbeing budget and free counselling
•Learning budget plus time for training and conferences
•Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave
Where you'll work
Whilst there's no set number of days you're required to be in the office each week, we really value spending time together in person, both as a team and with our clients. There will be times when we'll need you to be in one of our offices or at a client site for important meetings, workshops and key moments.
To make that work, you'll need to be based within 50 miles of one of our offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or London.
