EPAM Systems

SAP joule & multi-agent integration engineer

In short

This remote role integrates SAP's Joule AI agent ecosystem with ServiceNow via A2A protocols, covering the full agent lifecycle from SAP BTP provisioning to production orchestration. The employer is EPAM Systems, hiring for a mid-level development position in IT. It demands 4+ years of hands-on SAP BTP engineering experience plus hands-on work with Joule Studio, LangGraph/CrewAI, A2A integration, and OAuth2/SAP IAS authentication.

Description
The role focuses on integrating SAP's Joule ecosystem with ServiceNow and other enterprise platforms through open agent communication protocols, covering the agent development lifecycle from SAP BTP provisioning to production-grade A2A orchestration.
Responsibilities
•Design and deploy pro-code AI agents on SAP BTP using Joule Studio, LangGraph, or SAP Cloud SDK for AI; define agent tools, orchestration logic, and backend integrations with S/4HANA OData APIs through BTP Destination Service
•Architect and implement end-to-end A2A communication between SAP Joule and ServiceNow, exposing Joule agents as A2A-compliant servers via SAP Agent Gateway, authoring Agent Cards, configuring JSON-RPC endpoints, and registering External Agent Providers in ServiceNow AI Agent Studio over Google A2A protocol v0.3.0
•Design primary and secondary agent delegation patterns, asynchronous push notification flows, and timeout-resilient pipelines across SAP and non-SAP agent networks
•Configure end-to-end authentication across agent boundaries using OAuth2, SAP IAS App2App trust, and BTP Cloud Identity Services; enforce least-privilege access, token governance, and audit-ready agent call chains
•Own the SAP BTP stack underpinning agent workloads, including AI Core provisioning, SAP Build Process Automation entitlements, Cloud Foundry runtime, Destination Service, and SAP Agent Gateway configuration
•Instrument agent pipelines with structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting to detect, root-cause, and systematically prevent failures across multi-hop agent calls
Requirements
•4+ years of hands-on SAP BTP engineering experience, including Cloud Foundry, SAP Cloud Identity Services, and Destination Service configuration
•Proven experience building and deploying custom Joule agents in Joule Studio (pro-code path), with tool definitions connected to SAP backend systems via OData or REST APIs
•Production experience enabling A2A integration between SAP Joule and ServiceNow AI Agent Studio, including Agent Card authoring, External Agent Provider registration, credential aliasing, and A2A protocol handshake validation
•Strong command of agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph or CrewAI, and multi-agent orchestration patterns including delegation, fallback, and asynchronous response handling
•Solid understanding of API security and authentication, including OAuth 2.0, mutual TLS, SAP IAS trust configurations, and BTP service bindings
•Familiarity with ServiceNow platform internals, including Now Assist AI Agents, Integration Hub, Flow Designer, and Connection & Credential Aliases
•Strong grasp of distributed systems design, API performance, and fault-tolerance patterns relevant to multi-agent pipelines
•Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex agent topology designs to engineering and business audiences
Nice to have
•MCP (Model Context Protocol) alongside A2A
•SAP BRIM, SOM, or BTP Integration Suite (CPI)
•ServiceNow Yokohama/Zurich release features
•SAP BTP or ServiceNow certifications
•CI/CD for BTP workloads using Cloud Foundry CLI, MTA deployment, or GitHub Actions
