About the role
The National Strategy Project (NSP) is an independent, cross-sector initiative building the UK's capacity to understand the choices it faces, make informed long-term decisions and act on them together. We bring together people from academia, business, government, civil society, technology, media and philanthropy. The main focus of this role is finding and attracting the right volunteers to fill NSP's organisational gaps. You will build and run how we recruit, from reaching new people and networks to matching them to roles, and make sure new volunteers get a smooth start.
Responsibilities
•Work with workstream leads to understand resourcing needs and turn them into clear, scoped role descriptions
•Build a pipeline of potential volunteers through networks, partnerships, universities, professional bodies and online channels
•Identify and approach people or organisations with the specific skills we need
•Build relationships with organisations that can refer volunteers to us
•Present the project's mission and the benefits of volunteering clearly and honestly
•Screen applications and coordinate initial interviews
•Match people to roles based on experience, motivation and availability
•Recommend candidates to workstream leads, who make the final decision, and maintain communication with prospective applicants throughout this stage
•Run a simple onboarding process, including sharing induction materials and introducing new volunteers to their teams
•Track applications, onboarding progress and capacity gaps, report on them regularly and improve the process as you go
•Act as the main point of contact for applicants and workstream leads; keep personnel records accurate and secure, in line with data protection requirements
Requirements
•A track record of finding and attracting candidates, including through networks, outreach and partnerships
•Experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, HR, people operations or volunteer management, in any sector
•Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage your own workload, handling many candidates and processes at once without close supervision
•Comfort with ambiguity and change: priorities shift, and you will be setting up processes from scratch as you go
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional approach to candidates and colleagues
•Good judgement and fairness when assessing people, commitment to inclusive recruitment
•Proficient using applicant tracking, spreadsheets and collaboration tools
Conditions
•Shape how a national project grows, at an early stage
•Work remotely, at times that fit around your other commitments
•Work with a capable, varied team from well outside your usual network
•Lead a function from the ground up, which you can draw on in your wider career
