Are you a student eager to apply your theoretical knowledge and fresh perspectives to real-world challenges? At Saab, we believe innovation grows from new ideas, and your thesis project could be the spark that ignites our next technical breakthrough.
Your Role
We see the enormous value students bring to our company. Your academic precision, combined with your enthusiasm for advanced technology, lets you approach problems with a unique and insightful lens.
At Saab you get the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, gain invaluable hands-on experience, and at the same time contribute to our growth and development.
Background
In today's society, radio frequencies play a central role in communication, navigation, and surveillance. However, these frequencies are vulnerable to interference from malicious actors, which can have serious consequences for safety and function in, for example, aviation and navigation systems.
To address these challenges, we want to investigate how a mobile AntSDR (Software Defined Radio) system can be used to identify, detect, and direction-find sources of radio frequency interference across different bands. The system should be able to identify interference sources in real time and report their direction to a base station.
Description of the Thesis Project
The work will be divided into several parts:
•Frequency Analysis and Signal Reception
Use AntSDR to receive and analyze signals in various frequency bands (e.g. L-band, GPS, GSM, etc.) to identify interference.
•Interference Detection
Develop algorithms to identify when signals are affected by interference, regardless of frequency band.
•Direction Finding
Implement interferometry to direction-find interference sources based on signals received from multiple antenna positions.
•Data Transmission and Communication
Develop solutions to send information about interference sources and the mobile system's own position to a base station.
The thesis project aims to develop a system for direction finding of radio frequency interference using a mobile AntSDR system. The work combines theoretical analysis, implementation of signal processing algorithms, and practical tests in real environments.
You will work with advanced SDR techniques and algorithms to solve a current security and surveillance problem in the radio frequency domain. Through the work, you will get the opportunity to explore how modern SDR platforms can be used to increase security in communication systems and contribute to understanding how interference can be identified and neutralized in real time.
Your Profile
The work is suitable for a student with an interest in signal processing and programming. You are curious and want to learn more about SDR and signal processing.
You are nearing the end of your engineering education in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent, and are about to begin your thesis project of 30 credits.
We provide the support and guidance you need to translate your theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. Become a driving force behind Saab's technical progress!
The position requires that you undergo and pass security clearance screening according to current regulations. For positions where Saab requires security classification, this may, where applicable, entail a requirement for certain citizenship.
Please note that we work with ongoing selection and the position may be filled before the final application date has passed.
