Brownie

Data & AI engineer

In short

This role leads Brownie's data architecture and its evolution toward AI-driven reporting, working on SQL Server data warehousing, Power BI migration to conversational/AI channels, and RAG-based use cases, reporting directly to the CIO. It's an onsite, office-based position in Barcelona at a mid-level, requiring around 5 years of data engineering/BI experience including 2 years applying generative AI in production. Strong SQL Server, Python, Power BI and LLM/RAG/vector database skills are required, along with business understanding of retail-like operations (sales, stock, margin).

About the role
We are currently looking for a Data & AI Engineer to join our offices in Barcelona. Your mission will be to lead Brownie's data architecture and prepare it for artificial intelligence, evolving current reporting towards new channels (conversational reports, tailored AI solutions and automations) and ensuring reliable, consistent data with business context. You will report directly to the CIO.
Responsibilities
•Design, evolve and maintain the data architecture on SQL Server (data warehouse, dimensional model, fact and dimension tables, and extracts).
•Structure and expose information so that the AI models and the development team's RAG strategy work with reliable data and business context.
•Lead the gradual migration of reporting in Power BI towards new channels (AI-generated reports, conversational queries and internal applications), ensuring service continuity.
•Ensure data quality, consistency and availability, providing a single source of truth for the entire company.
•Design and maintain ETL processes and automations, including administration of n8n.
•Analyze how business information is obtained and used (store, e-commerce, product, stock, margin and customer), proposing alternatives for improvement.
•Identify and develop new data, AI and application use cases from start to finish together with the development team and business areas.
Requirements
•A higher vocational qualification or university degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Mathematics, Data Science or a similar field.
•Around 5 years of experience in data (data engineering, BI or analytics), at least 2 of them applying generative AI to real-world use cases.
•Proficiency in SQL Server: dimensional modeling (Data Warehouse), complex queries, optimization, stored procedures and extracts.
•Practical experience applying AI to data in real-world use: commercial LLMs and open models on private infrastructure, RAG, embeddings, vector databases and agents.
•Experience with Power BI or other visualization tools and with Python for data processing and AI integration.
•Understanding of business (sales, invoicing, margin, stock) to interpret each data point correctly.
•Passion for AI and curiosity to experiment and stay up to date, always with a business focus.
•Sound judgment, ownership and proactivity to take data solutions from start to finish.
•Communication skills to work across store, business and development teams.
•Motivation for change projects: preference for building rather than maintaining.
Nice to have
•Training in Business Administration or Finance.
•n8n or other automation tools (Make, Airflow, Power Automate).
•Experience in retail or e-commerce.
•Data integration from ERP or POS systems.
•Technical English.
