Business development manager in fintech

In short

This is a Business Development Manager role at a growing fintech infrastructure company offering an API-led card programme platform, focused on winning new business across Europe including the UK. The role involves consultative, technical sales cycles with product, engineering and compliance stakeholders, commercial negotiations, and reporting directly to the CEO. It requires 3–5+ years of B2B sales experience in fintech or payments, a self-sourced new business track record, and willingness to travel across Europe about one week per month. Based in Cyprus on a hybrid basis, with uncapped commission on top of base salary.

About the Role
We are a growing fintech infrastructure company building an API-led platform that enables businesses to launch and operate card programmes without needing extensive specialist card-processing expertise in-house. As Business Development Manager, you will own new business development across Europe, including the UK.
Responsibilities
•Own the European new-business target and generate pipeline through outbound prospecting, personal networks, industry events and inbound enquiries.
•Qualify opportunities rigorously and focus on prospects with genuine commercial potential.
•Demonstrate the platform through product demonstrations, sandbox access and technical discussions rather than relying solely on traditional sales messaging.
•Manage consultative, technical sales cycles involving product, engineering, commercial and compliance stakeholders.
•Manage opportunities that may typically take several months from initial engagement to contract signature.
•Lead commercial negotiations covering pricing, volumes and contractual terms, with the CEO available for escalation.
•Coordinate solution reviews, security assessments, RFP responses and proof-of-concept requirements with internal technical teams.
•Ensure a structured handover to implementation and delivery following contract signature.
•Feed market intelligence back into the sales playbook, messaging and marketing strategy.
•Maintain accurate CRM records and provide reliable forecasting to the CEO.
Requirements
•3–5+ years of B2B sales experience within fintech, payments or a closely related technology environment.
•A demonstrable record of winning new business that you have sourced yourself.
•A consultative and commercially focused approach to selling.
•Experience managing technical, multi-stakeholder sales cycles involving product, engineering or technology decision-makers.
•Experience selling into regulated industries and familiarity with compliance, security and legal review processes.
•The ability to explain complex technology and commercial propositions clearly and credibly.
•A disciplined approach to pipeline generation, qualification, forecasting and closing.
•Excellent professional English.
•Willingness to travel across Europe approximately one week per month for customer meetings and industry events.
•The right to work in the relevant European location or eligibility to relocate.
•We are looking for someone who has previously carried a revenue target in a small or mid-sized company, or someone ready to take full ownership of one.
Nice to have:
•Experience selling payments infrastructure, issuing, acquiring, processing, BaaS, wallets or related fintech infrastructure.
•Experience with card issuing or card programmes.
•Understanding of payments economics and commercial models.
•An established network among European fintech companies, programme managers, founders or payments providers.
•Familiarity with major card schemes and their programme approval processes.
•Additional European language skills.
Conditions
•Competitive base salary.
•Uncapped commission based on revenue generated from deals you close.
•Commission paid monthly according to the agreed incentive plan.
•Annual leave plus local public holidays.
•Business travel and subsistence expenses covered.
•Home-working equipment provided.
•The role is based in Cyprus on a hybrid basis, with regular office attendance and international travel for customer meetings and industry events.
•You will report directly to the CEO and have regular pipeline reviews, with direct access to senior leadership for commercial, pricing and scope decisions.
