UL Solutions

Business Development Manager, Americas, Data & Innovation

In short

Business Development Manager role at UL Solutions connecting market demand with product/solution expertise for digital, data, AI-enabled, and compliance management offerings. A non-commissioned, customer-facing position spanning Sales, Technical, Product, Operations, and Marketing — gathering requirements, scoping solutions, supporting pricing/packaging, and driving adoption of new digital offerings. Requires approximately 5+ years in product management, product marketing, solutions consulting, or commercialization, plus strong cross-functional influence and discovery skills.

About the Role
UL Solutions is seeking a Business Development Manager, Data & Innovation to grow demand for digital, data, and technology-enabled offerings, including AI-enabled services, Global Compliance & Management (GCM), and to shape those offerings around real customer needs.
The role connects market demand with solution expertise. The person finds and qualifies opportunities, works through sellers to progress them, and gathers the customer requirements that shape how each offering is scoped, packaged, and explained. It sits between the customer and the offering, works across Sales, Technical, Product, Operations, and Marketing, and supports customer conversations as the product expert.
This is a non-commissioned role. It does not carry a sales quota or replace account ownership. Success is measured by the opportunities it opens and progresses, the quality of customer requirements it captures, and the adoption of the solutions it supports.
Responsibilities
•Gather and document customer requirements, use cases, and unmet needs, and translate them into clear input for product and offering decisions.
•Analyze customer, service, and market data to identify gaps in the current offering portfolio and recommend where to extend, package, or retire capability.
•Support pricing, packaging, and positioning decisions for new and evolving digital solutions, working with Product, Finance, and Marketing.
•Find and qualify opportunities for emerging offerings, and work through sellers and account teams to progress them.
•Act as the product point of contact for sales, account, and global account teams on scope, capability, limitations, and fit.
•Support solution scoping for customer opportunities, including requirements, assumptions, dependencies, and handoffs to delivery.
•Build product collateral, demo content, discovery guides, and use cases so the offering is explained consistently and can be repeated at scale.
•Lead product discovery sessions that start with the customer's compliance or market access problem, not a predetermined solution.
•Assess whether the current offering meets the need, document the gap when it does not, and bring in the right technical or regulatory expert.
•Support pilots and early adoption, track how customers actually use the solution, and feed findings, objections, and competitive insight back to Product and leadership.
•Support launch and commercialization of digital, software-enabled, and AI-enabled offerings, including readiness checks, launch materials, and internal training.
•Use CRM, Power BI, usage data, and market data to track offering performance, adoption, and conversion, and to build simple business cases for investment.
•Turn recurring custom work into standard, repeatable product components with defined scope, delivery model, and pricing.
Requirements
•Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
•Approximately 5+ years in product management, product marketing, solutions consulting, commercialization, or a related customer-facing product role.
•Demonstrated ability to gather customer requirements and turn them into offering definition, scope documents, or product improvements.
•Strong discovery, communication, presentation, and relationship-management skills, and the ability to influence across functions without direct authority.
•Working knowledge of technical, regulatory, digital, or software-enabled solutions, and the ability to explain how they work and what they deliver.
•Self-directed, comfortable in an evolving environment, and willing to travel within the region as needed.
•Experience in testing, inspection and certification; product compliance; regulatory services; market access; software/SaaS; digital transformation; cybersecurity; or another technical B2B environment.
•Experience defining or commercializing software, subscription, or recurring-revenue offerings for complex enterprise customers.
•Experience using CRM, Power BI, or similar tools to analyze customer and commercial opportunities.
•Experience developing or launching new products, service offerings, pilots, or go-to-market packages.
•For the Europe position, familiarity with regional data-privacy and outreach requirements.
