Responsibilities
•Own backend features end to end within the Private Cloud Solutions domain
•Take work from specification through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support for systems supporting Nutanix and VMware products
•Design and develop reliable backend services and integrations
•Build and maintain application logic, APIs, workflows, and supporting services used to provision and operate private cloud environments
•Design, query, and maintain database-backed functionality, focusing on correctness, performance, and reliability
•Integrate software with virtualization platforms and support provisioning and lifecycle operations through related APIs and services
•Translate requirements into clear technical specifications; identify dependencies, failure scenarios, and unknowns early and resolve ambiguity before implementation
•Use AI-assisted engineering tools in daily work, critically validate generated code, and remain accountable for the final result
•Write tests with every change, validate failure scenarios as well as the happy path, and provide evidence that changes are production-ready
•Review other engineers' code and technical changes, identifying design, maintainability, security, and reliability risks and providing actionable feedback
•Work safely in existing and unfamiliar codebases, make incremental improvements, and leave code better tested and documented
•Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to incidents, contribute to root-cause analysis, and complete follow-up actions
•Mentor other engineers, share technical knowledge, explain design decisions, and support less experienced engineers through implementation and review
•Identify cross-team dependencies early and coordinate directly with relevant engineers to avoid delivery blockers
Requirements
•5+ Years of experience in backend software engineering and production systems
•5+ Years of experience with Perl
•5+ Years of experience with PostgreSQL or a similar relational database
•Strong understanding of backend architecture, application logic, APIs, and data-driven systems
•Experience building, testing, deploying, and supporting production software
•Strong SQL skills and experience with relational data models
•Experience writing automated tests and validating production changes before deployment
•Ability to understand unfamiliar code and troubleshoot issues across multiple parts of a production system
•Experience participating in an on-call rotation and responding to production incidents
•Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools in day-to-day development
•Clear written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team across multiple time zones
Nice to have
•5+ years of experience with Nutanix, VMware, or other server virtualization platforms
•Experience integrating backend applications with virtualization or infrastructure APIs
•Experience with private cloud, virtualization, or infrastructure provisioning systems
•Experience in managed hosting, cloud platforms, or another high-availability service environment
•Experience with complex or legacy backend systems
•Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing backend design and code
