Orange Business

AI engineer

In short

AI Engineer role at Orange Business in Amsterdam, working within the Data & AI team to take client AI solutions from idea to production. The role combines hands-on engineering (Python, RAG, agentic AI, LLMs) with consulting, translating business problems into AI use cases and building scalable cloud architectures. Requires prior experience as an AI Engineer, ML Engineer, Data Scientist, or similar, strong Python skills, and the ability to productionize AI solutions beyond prototypes. Hybrid work model between home, the Amsterdam office, and client sites.

About the Role
Building a good AI solution is one thing. Ensuring that it meets an organisation's needs and is actually used is another. At Orange Business, you combine the two. As an AI Engineer in our Data & AI team, you work with clients on AI challenges from idea to implementation. You investigate what is really needed, make technical choices understandable, and help build the solution yourself. One day you design a RAG or agentic AI architecture; the next, you program in Python and experiment with models or their evaluation. You are both an engineer and a consultant: hands-on with technology and a Trusted Advisor to our clients.
Responsibilities
•Work with clients to translate business problems into AI use cases and determine when AI is, and is not, the right solution.
•Design prototypes and develop them into reliable applications that can be used in practice.
•Build GenAI applications using, among other things, LLMs, RAG, agents, tool calling, and modern AI workflows.
•Integrate AI solutions with existing data, APIs, applications, and business processes.
•Design scalable architectures for AI applications in the cloud.
•Share knowledge within Orange Business and contribute to the further development of our Data & AI proposition.
Requirements
•Experience developing AI solutions, for example as an AI Engineer, ML Engineer, Data Scientist, or in a similar role.
•Comfortable with Python and understand what it takes to make code reliable and maintainable.
•Understand what it takes to take AI solutions beyond an experiment or notebook and towards a production environment.
•Enjoy working with clients and colleagues, making technical choices clear to people with different backgrounds, and asking critical questions.
•Be curious, enjoy trying out new technology, and share your knowledge with others.
Nice to have
A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Mathematics, Econometrics, or a comparable field is a plus, but relevant practical experience is considered at least as important.
Conditions & Benefits
•Hybrid working from home, our Amsterdam office, and client sites.
•Plenty of room for technical and personal development.
•Access to a broad European and international community of Data, AI, and Cloud experts.
•Room to experiment, share knowledge, and help build our AI proposition.
•A mobility allowance or lease car.
•A market-rate salary, based in part on your engineering experience, independence, responsibility in client projects, and consultancy experience.
•Bonus scheme, pension, and other secondary employment benefits.
