2027 Summer Internship (US) - Software Engineer, AI Features & Product Convergence, Zebra Task Manager

In short

This is a Summer 2027 software engineering internship at Zebra, building AI features for Form Creator (a tool used to create store walks, audits and surveys) plus work on product convergence and prototyping a new product. The intern will deliver full-stack work (Java 21/Spring backend APIs, Angular frontend), add responsible-AI guardrails, write unit tests, and present a live demo to leadership. It requires current enrollment in a Computer Science/Engineering degree program, graduation by May 2027 (or Masters 2027-2028), US work authorization without sponsorship, and hybrid attendance (3 days/week) in Kennesaw, GA.

Overview
The purpose of this internship is to prepare students for entry into the business world by providing a thorough understanding of the various functions of the Zebra Technologies organization. The program is designed to provide students with experiences that provide insights into a career with Zebra. Students will be positioned for success with training and hands-on experiences, invited to social and development activities, and provided a professional mentor relationship.
Summer Project: New AI features in Form Creator, product convergence, and new products
•AI-assisted authoring: design and build new Zebra AI (ZAI) features in Form Creator, the tool HQ users use to build store walks, audits and surveys. Today ZAI can generate questions, answer options, ratings, translations and rephrased text; the intern will extend it, for example to turn an uploaded policy or SOP document into a complete draft template, or to suggest skip logic and validation rules.
•AI insights from results: build a feature that summarizes completed walk responses and violations into plain-language findings and recommended follow-up tasks for store and district managers.
•Full-stack delivery: implement the backend REST endpoints in Java 21 / Spring (SWA v2 and Next-Gen /api/v2 APIs) and the matching Angular screens, from design review through production-ready code.
•Responsible AI: add guardrails such as per-customer enable/disable flags, managed prompts, validation of the model's structured (JSON) output, and fallbacks when the AI service is unavailable; build a small evaluation set to measure answer quality.
•Product convergence: help bring Form Creator capabilities together across the forms, surveys, store walk (SWA) and offline walk products, so a new feature is built once as a shared component or API and works in every product.
•New products: help prototype an AI-enabled capability for a new product on the platform, including its product configuration (modules, permissions, menus and pages).
•Quality and demo: write unit tests (JUnit 5, Mockito), ship through the Jenkins/SonarQube CI pipeline, document the work, and present a live demo to product and engineering leadership at the end of the summer.
