Technical game designer for combat systems

In short

This is a Technical Game Designer role on the combat systems team of Spine, a third-person beat'em'up built in Unreal Engine 5. The job involves implementing combat mechanics using C++ and Blueprints (GameplayAbilitySystem), working closely with programmers, designers, and animators, and polishing gameplay feel. It requires 2+ years of hands-on Unreal Engine gameplay implementation experience, a game design mindset, and conversational English for communicating with some English-speaking team members.

About the Project
SPINE is made with Unreal Engine 5 and centered around cinematic gun-fu shootouts. It's a third-person beat'em'up with a full set of PC gaming features, including a deep storyline, a unique setting, cutscenes, intriguing enemies, memorable bosses, character progression, and, most importantly, breathtaking battles with a wide array of firearms.
We are currently looking for a Technical Game Designer to join the technical game design team of our flagship project – Spine.
Responsibilities
•Implement combat system mechanics using C++ and Blueprints (GameplayAbilitySystem), from prototype to final implementation, in collaboration with programmers
•Work on the gameplay result of the mechanics, in collaboration with game designers and animators
•Independently contribute to the gameplay, helping to polish mechanics to achieve the best feel and to meet gameplay goals
•Help integrate content for the combat system (animations, SFX, VFX)
Requirements
•2+ years of experience implementing gameplay logic in Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5)
•A game design mindset and a basic understanding of the game design principles behind combat systems. We expect at least a decent level of hands-on familiarity with action games
•Ability to independently investigate and diagnose gameplay and technical issues
•Soft skills for working in a cross-disciplinary feature team — collaborating closely with programmers, game designers, and animators
•Conversational or higher level of English — the team mostly speaks Russian, but some team members are English-speaking, so you'll need it to communicate with them
Nice to have
•Portfolio showcasing personal game projects or demos of any complexity
