GE Vernova

Stagiaire ingénieur R&D - Simulation numérique de mise à la terre haute-tension (F/H)

In short

This is an R&D internship at GE Vernova's High-Voltage Circuit Breakers Research & Development Center in Villeurbanne, France, within the Grid Solutions sector. The role involves multiphysics numerical simulation of a grounding system (MALT) under mechanical, thermal, dielectric, and electrodynamic constraints, as part of a project to replace SF6 gas in switchgear. It requires an engineering student (4th/5th year) in Mechanical, Energy, or Electrical Engineering with skills in finite element/volume simulation, programming, and tools like AMESIM, ANSYS, COMSOL, Python, and C.

Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is a global energy company organized into three segments: Power, Wind, and Electrification. With over 130 years of experience solving global challenges, GE Vernova is ideally positioned to play a leading role in the energy transition, continuing to electrify the world while working toward its decarbonization, with more than 70,000 employees across more than 100 countries. GE Vernova's Grid Solutions sector provides advanced grid technologies and systems, enabling the transmission and distribution of energy from the point of generation to the point of consumption, and supports a secure and decarbonized energy transition.
At its industrial site in Villeurbanne (France), the Grid Solutions sector designs, tests, and manufactures high-voltage circuit breakers for its national and international customers.
Job Description
The internship will take place within the High-Voltage Circuit Breakers Research & Development Center, as part of a development project aimed at eliminating SF6 from switchgear, the most polluting gas in the world (1kg = 22.5t CO2 equivalent - 1% of global emissions). Integrated into a development project for a high-voltage GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) electrical substation, the internship will focus on multiphysics modeling of a Grounding System (MALT) under mechanical, thermal, dielectric, and electrodynamic constraints in order to propose criteria and design modifications.
The subject will be structured around 3 main axes:
•Definition of calculation parameters, numerical simulations
•Analysis of results, presentation to the project team
•Proposals for performance improvements according to design constraints
Depending on the profile, the subject may also extend to related topics in connection with the project's needs.
Profile sought
•Engineering school, 4th/5th year: Mechanical Engineering – Energy – Electrical
•French / English: spoken and written – Curiosity, Innovation and team spirit, Adaptability
•Knowledge: Mechanics – Fluid mechanics – Thermodynamics – Energy
•Skills: Numerical simulation by finite elements/volumes – Programming
•Preferred tools: AMESIM – ANSYS – COMSOL – Python – C
