This role is a great fit for a developing engineer who is excited about embedded Linux systems and wants to play a hands-on role in building the software that drives next-generation datacenter cooling solutions.
You will work under general supervision on moderate-scope projects, growing your skills in Board Support Package (BSP) development, sensor integration, and datacenter management protocols. Our team is based in Georgetown, TX, operating as Strategic Thermal Labs, a startup-energy group within Vertiv on a mission to produce the world's highest-performing, most efficient heat transfer solutions for the data center industry.
Responsibilities
•Contribute to the development and maintenance of Board Support Packages (BSPs) for embedded Linux controllers
•Develop software to interface with and control a variety of sensors (temperature, humidity, pressure, airflow) under the guidance of senior engineers
•Implement communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART) to facilitate data exchange between sensors, microcontrollers, and the main embedded Linux system
•Support integration of datacenter management protocols such as Modbus, Redfish API, and BACNet into embedded platforms
•Execute software test plans including unit and integration testing, and assist with system-level testing efforts
•Perform debugging and root cause analysis of software and hardware issues with support from senior team members
•Create and maintain technical documentation including design specifications and API documentation
•Provide informal guidance and support to new team members on embedded development workflows and best practices
Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
•2 to 4 years of experience developing embedded system or microcontroller software
•Working knowledge of embedded Linux systems and Board Support Package development
•Hands-on experience interfacing with and controlling various types of sensors
•Programming proficiency in Python with experience in embedded application development
•Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART
•Understanding of software testing methodologies including unit and integration testing
•Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
•Exposure to datacenter management protocols such as Modbus, Redfish API, or BACNet
•Experience with Raspberry Pi or similar single-board computer platforms
•Familiarity with security considerations in embedded systems
•Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines for embedded software
