Swedbank

Software Engineer – E-commerce

In short

Software Engineer role at Swedbank building and maintaining scalable e-commerce payment services, including modernizing a business-critical e-invoice solution used by customers across the Baltics. The company is a bank operating in fintech/payments, hiring at the middle level for a hybrid role in Vilnius. The role demands strong Java (ideally with Spring Boot) and analytical problem-solving skills, plus experience with REST APIs, Clean Architecture, CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and fluent English in an international team.

About the Role
Do you enjoy solving complex problems, understanding how things work under the hood, and turning them into simple, reliable solutions? Join us and help shape the future of e-commerce payments. We are growing our payment solutions for online commerce merchants and are looking for a Software Engineer with strong Java skills and an analytical mindset to join our team. You will work with services that support e-commerce payments and are used by customers across the Baltics. To start with, you will contribute to the development and modernization of our e-invoice service, a business-critical solution with plenty of opportunities to improve, simplify, and build for the future. This is a complex and dynamic domain where analytical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving skills matter as much as coding. You will need to understand how different systems and components fit together, investigate problems, ask the right questions, and find practical solutions. You won't be doing it alone. You'll work alongside experienced colleagues who value openness, professionalism, and collaboration.

•Strong Java development experience, preferably with modern Java versions and Spring Boot
•A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset — you enjoy understanding complex situations, finding root causes, and connecting the dots
•Experience with Clean Code and Clean Architecture principles
•Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
•Ability to understand not only how to implement something, but also why it should be implemented that way
•Familiarity with Oracle DB, MS SQL Server and/or QA practices is a strong plus
•Understanding and experience with CI/CD practices and tools, such as GitHub Actions
•Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms, such as Docker and Kubernetes
•Understanding of monitoring and observability concepts, including logs, metrics, and traces
•Fluent in English and comfortable working in an international team
•Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field, or equivalent practical experience
