Job Summary
The Senior Supply Chain Manager will plan, coordinate, organize, and oversee activities involved in the identification, acquisition, production, and delivery of material, equipment, and services needed for Avangrid Renewables Grid-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Equipment Supply Agreements.
Duties include supporting the Supply Chain Management department with strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, quality management, logistics, material management, and contract management activities.
This role is responsible for driving the negotiation, structuring, and closure of equipment supply agreements, and related commercial agreements for battery energy storage projects, ensuring favorable, risk-balanced contractual terms and disciplined commercial stewardship in support of capital project delivery.
The position establishes, governs, and enforces enterprise contracting standards, negotiation strategy, and contract performance expectations to enable on-time, on-risk project execution and regulatory defensibility. The Senior Supply Chain Manager exercises decision authority over contract strategy, terms negotiation, and deal closure for BESS-related agreements and Equipment Supply Agreements, leveraging deep technical and commercial fluency in the Equipment Supply and BESS market to manage contractual risk, delivery commitments, and counterparty relationships at scale.
Job Duties
•Provide strategic direction for the contracts function supporting grid-scale BESS project development and delivery, ensuring alignment between contract strategies, contract types, and technology requirements.
•Establish and enforce enterprise contracting governance, including roles, decision rights, technical and commercial competencies, performance expectations, and succession planning, ensuring consistent execution and accountability across the organization.
•Improve Equipment Supply and BESS contracting strategy with alignment across Purchasing, Engineering, Legal, and Project Delivery.
•Own the end-to-end negotiation and closure of Equipment Supply agreements, and Master Supply Agreements (MSAs) for grid-scale BESS equipment (e.g., battery systems, inverters, PCS, transformers, switchgear), ensuring all commitments are driven by validated project demand and aligned with approved capital plan.
•Lead high-stakes contract negotiations from initial terms through final execution, with primary emphasis on negotiating and closing favorable contractual terms and conditions.
•Drive cross-functional alignment with Legal, Engineering, and Risk to resolve contractual sticking points and bring high-value agreements to signature on schedule.
•Set and govern enterprise contracting frameworks, templates, and negotiation playbooks, and define performance targets by contract/equipment category to balance system reliability, schedule adherence, and risk-adjusted commercial terms.
•Exercise decision authority to restructure, amend, or reprioritize contract terms and commitments in response to project changes, with accountability for cost avoidance and financial risk mitigation.
•Lead cross-functional escalation, prioritization, and resolution of contractual and commercial risks that could impact project delivery milestones or regulatory obligations, drawing on direct experience coordinating with EPCs, integrators, and utility customers on large-scale deployments.
•Communicate effectively with senior leadership on contract risks, counterparty relationships, and negotiation strategy, leading timely escalation management for critical contractual issues.
•Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Law, or related field; or equivalent experience.
•15+ years of progressive experience in the electrical/power systems industry, including grid, power electronics, or utility-scale equipment.
•10+ years of experience specific to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and grid-scale energy storage, including direct engagement with global OEMs (e.g., inverter/PCS manufacturers, battery suppliers) and EPCs.
•Demonstrated success negotiating and closing large-scale commercial contracts (MSAs, EPC agreements, long-term supply agreements) with global equipment manufacturers, from term sheet through final signature, with a track record of managing multi-GWh project portfolios.
•Proven track record of full-cycle deal closure by leading contract terms negotiation to completion, not solely price/cost negotiation.
•Proven experience coordinating cross-functionally across Engineering, Legal, Procurement, and Project Delivery on capital-intensive infrastructure projects.
•Deep technical and commercial fluency in BESS, power electronics, and grid-scale power systems.
•Strong contract negotiator with the ability to close complex, multi-stakeholder agreements and resolve contractual terms and conditions.
•Strong change leader with the ability to drive enterprise-wide standardization.
•Strategic thinker with strong commercial and contractual discipline.
•Decisive, data-driven, and risk-aware.
•Comfortable operating in regulated utility environments.
•Trusted partner to executive leadership and external OEM/EPC partners.
