Air Liquide

Researcher (Etching)

In short

A thin film dry etching researcher role at Air Liquide Laboratories' Innovation Campus in Tokyo, Japan, part of the group's R&D operations. The role involves evaluating new molecules for plasma etching (CCP/ICP/RIE), characterizing thin films with techniques like SEM, XPS and FTIR, and collaborating with engineers in Japan and the U.S. to develop etching precursors. It requires a PhD or Master's degree in a related field, strong English skills, and the ability to eventually manage the project.

About Air Liquide Laboratories
Air Liquide Laboratories is one of the main R&D centers of the Air Liquide group. Its goal is to develop new and innovative solutions for the entire Air Liquide group. Air Liquide Laboratories is located at Innovation Campus Tokyo, inaugurated in March 2019. The new facility promotes collaboration with customers, start-up companies and academic partners. It gathers researchers and workers from all around the world in order to promote a multicultural work environment and skills diversity. The Campus develops the latest thin film deposition and etching technologies for applications in electronics, batteries and fuel cells, as well as strategies and solutions for the entire supply chain, production, purification, storage, transportation and distribution of low carbon hydrogen.
Within the framework of the R&D strategy and roadmap, support or perform research projects in labs, whatever the research subject, in order to develop technologies and innovations for internal and external clients. Lab could be considered as internal Lab or external partnerships (e.g. universities, start-ups).
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
We are seeking a thin film dry etching researcher with extensive experience in plasma etching (CCP/ICP/RIE), and the evaluation of processed thin-film samples. Expertise in etching gases and their analysis, thin-film etching methodologies, and thin-film characterization is highly desirable. The researcher will collaborate within international teams, working not only with etching engineers in Japan but also with colleagues in the U.S. to develop novel and promising etching precursors. In the future, the candidate is expected to manage the project.
Responsibilities
The person is required to be able to:
•Perform the dry etching evaluation of new molecules. This includes thin film etching tests and characterization by SEM, Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, XPS, FTIR, analysis of electrical properties, gas analysis (GC, FTIR) and other relevant techniques.
•Have direct contacts with local suppliers and lead the project on a day to day basis.
•Join an internal safety organization and be in charge of a specific subject.
•Strong command of English both speaking and reading to work in an English speaking environment. Good communication and relation skills with multi-national coworkers required. Solid command in Japanese is a strong plus.
Are you a MATCH?
•PhD level, Master degree or equivalent in related fields: material science, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, or dry etching (CCP/ICP/RIE) is preferred. Gas phase analysis (GC, FTIR) experience may be a plus.
•Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Workspace.
•Ability to work autonomously within one's team/group.
•Ability to report and present information in a clear and concise manner.
•Ability to manage the project.
•Ability to work in a team in a multicultural environment - well-organized, self-motivated and efficient, with team leadership skills.
