qa engineer (auto) for trading platform UI

In short

Senior QA automation engineer role building and owning end-to-end, component, and performance tests for an in-house trading platform's React/TypeScript front end, working closely with a backend SDET on a unified cross-layer testing framework. The company operates in fintech and the role is fully remote. Requires 5+ years of UI test automation with deep Playwright/TypeScript expertise, Python, front-end performance testing, CI/CD, Docker, AWS, and infrastructure-as-code skills.

About the Company
The company builds an in-house trading platform for order management, execution, and data analysis. Its front end consists of TypeScript/React apps running in a desktop container and streaming real-time data.
Responsibilities
•Co-architect and co-own a unified testing framework with the backend SDET, sharing foundations across UI, API, Kafka, database, and performance suites, supporting cross-layer scenarios, and providing a unified view of release quality
•Design, build, and maintain end-to-end and component tests with Playwright and TypeScript for trading and analytics workflows
•Extend the shared test toolkit with page objects, fixtures, and desktop-container API mocks
•Build front-end harnesses for real-time data using mocked WebSocket and REST responses, controlled test data, and deterministic replay of streaming updates
•Test UI failure modes, including disconnects and reconnects, expired sessions, permission failures, bursty feeds, and stale data
•Own front-end performance testing by measuring startup, time-to-first-data, responsiveness under high update rates, grid rendering and scrolling at scale, container memory growth and leaks, and CPU cost per window; set regression budgets that fail CI
•Build and maintain isolated, on-demand Linux and AWS test environments with seeded data and known state, automatic teardown, and isolation between test runs
•Validate front-end/back-end contracts and payload schemas
•Run UI suites in CI/CD with sharded parallel runs, scheduled regressions, and pull request reporting
•Make failures diagnosable with Playwright traces, screenshots, video, and telemetry correlation
•Work with UI engineers, business analysts, and traders to automate critical workflows and define QA acceptance criteria
•Use AI-assisted tools to write, maintain, and triage tests where helpful
Requirements
•5+ Years of UI test automation, including designing or significantly extending a framework
•Strong TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js skills, with substantial hands-on Playwright experience; strong Cypress or Selenium experience and willingness to move to Playwright are also acceptable
•Working Python skills, including pytest and Playwright for Python, for test tooling, data setup, backend checks in UI scenarios, and contributions to the shared framework
•Experience testing React apps with complex data grids such as AG Grid, dynamic forms, and heavy client-side state
•Experience mocking browser network traffic with REST and WebSocket and testing authentication flows
•Front-end performance testing experience, including Chrome DevTools Performance and Memory panels, Lighthouse and performance APIs, diagnosing long tasks, layout thrashing and memory leaks, and setting and enforcing CI performance budgets
•CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions, and Git
•Experience building isolated test environments; Linux command-line skills, shell scripting, process and networking knowledge, and log troubleshooting
•Experience with Docker and Docker Compose
•AWS experience with EC2, ECS or EKS, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch
•Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK
•Strong reliability practices, including isolated tests, deterministic waits instead of sleeps, controlled retries, and flaky-test triage
•Experience with test reporting and traceability tools such as Playwright reports, Allure, Azure Test Plans, or TestRail
•Clear communication and good documentation skills
Nice to Have
•Trading or buy-side experience with OMS/EMS, algos, positions, allocations, or risk
•Java exposure sufficient to read service code and contribute to backend suites
•Desktop-container automation with Electron, OpenFin, or similar
•Component testing with Vitest or Jest and Storybook visual or interaction testing
•Accessibility and visual-regression testing
•React Profiler and familiarity with React rendering performance, memoization, and virtualization
•OpenTelemetry or similar real-user-monitoring tools and use of production RUM data to select performance test scenarios
