Platform Engineer

In short

Junior Platform Engineer role on Depop's Platform Enablement team, building the internal developer platform that supports ~300 microservices in production. Work involves hands-on Kubernetes (EKS), AWS infrastructure with Terraform/IaC, service catalog tooling (Backstage), incident management, and CI/CD support, under guidance of senior engineers. Requires hands-on Kubernetes experience, AWS working knowledge, scripting familiarity, and Git/GitHub comfort. Remote, full-time position at Depop, a secondhand fashion marketplace owned by Etsy/eBay.

About Depop
Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell and discover secondhand fashion. Founded in 2011, Depop's diverse community has helped move resale into the mainstream. Today, more than 56 million registered users come to Depop. Powered by a team of over 500 people, the company is headquartered in London, with offices in New York. In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy and continues to operate as a standalone company, and is now part of eBay.
Role
The Platform Enablement team builds the foundations that help every engineering team at Depop ship faster, safer, and more consistently. The team owns Depop's developer platform - from service catalog and GitHub compliance tooling to AI platform foundations, incident management workflows, and the internal frameworks teams rely on to operate their services. As an engineer on this team, you'd be working directly with Kubernetes (EKS) and AWS - getting hands-on with real infrastructure problems alongside a team that treats internal engineers as its users. Day to day, that means contributing to the Kubernetes estate, building and improving AWS infrastructure with Terraform/IaC, helping embed best practices across the engineering org, and building tooling that reduces friction for the ~300 microservices Depop runs in production. The role blends infrastructure engineering with a platform mindset. Success isn't just uptime - it's measured by how confidently product engineers can build, deploy, and operate their services on the foundations provided.
Responsibilities

•Build and improve AWS infrastructure using Terraform/IaC - covering compute, networking, IAM, and storage patterns used across the engineering org
•Contribute to platform guardrails and tooling that help product engineers deploy safely and consistently on AWS and Kubernetes
•Help identify and address gaps in the AWS estate - covering security posture, cost hygiene, and operational standards - working alongside senior platform engineers
•Build reusable Terraform/IaC patterns and contribute to the standards the wider engineering organisation follows
•Collaborate with product engineering teams and across the platform group on shared infrastructure patterns and standards
Reliability & Cross-team Enablement
•Support reliability workflows including incident management tooling (incident.io), observability integrations, and post-incident improvements
