Afilio

Performance marketing manager in retirement planning

In short

Performance marketing manager role at Afilio, a Berlin-based provision-planning platform serving over 4 million users with a 35-person team. The job covers managing existing Google/Bing Search and Display channels, testing new acquisition channels like Meta (approx. 80% of time), developing ad concepts, and optimizing landing page conversions. It requires hands-on practical experience with Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager, strategic and analytical thinking, and native-level German language skills; no multi-year professional experience is required and career changers are welcome.

About the role
With Afilio, we operate Germany's leading platform for provision planning. With professional support for provision planning, estate matters and care, we help over 4,000,000 people prepare for a worry-free retirement. Our team of 35 dedicated people works every day to expand and improve our offering. Our biggest challenge is building new profitable channels to reach the right people, at the right time, in the right context. We are looking for someone to take strategic responsibility for our performance marketing ad spend and build and test campaigns hands-on.
Tasks
•Manage existing channels: You are responsible for Google/Bing Search and Display, the channels through which we acquire most of our users, and ensure the ongoing maintenance and management of campaigns in line with our strategic growth and profitability goals. We do not work with fixed budgets and strict processes: based on performance, you independently decide on the level of investment and how to achieve it.
•Build new channels: You will spend most of your time (approx. 80%) testing new acquisition channels such as Meta. You identify potential, set up test campaigns and scale them when successful.
•Develop ad concepts: With support from the marketing team, you develop concepts and ad copy for our ads. You work closely with our design team on the graphic implementation.
•Optimize conversions: Your work does not end when someone clicks on an ad. You are responsible for the performance of landing pages and subsequent user flows, set up systematic tests, and use the data to continuously increase the conversion rate.
•Prepare and communicate data in a structured way: You keep track of all relevant metrics and prepare them so the team can clearly understand them. On this basis, you make strategic decisions about user acquisition in close coordination with the founders and the marketing lead.
Requirements
•Practical experience with Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager: You have set up, optimized and evaluated campaigns yourself, at a job, an agency or in your own project. We do not expect several years of professional experience, and career changers are explicitly welcome. What matters is that you take ownership of this area, build it over the coming years and become an expert yourself.
•Strategic and commercial thinking: You think in terms of profitability, growth goals and budget logic, not just clicks and campaign metrics. You can explain the impact your decisions had on the business.
•Methodical testing: You have experience developing hypotheses for ads and landing pages, setting up meaningful A/B tests, evaluating them systematically and deciding which approaches to scale or stop based on the results.
•Analytical, creative and AI-oriented: You make decisions based on metrics, while also enjoying developing psychologically effective ad concepts and ad copy yourself. You use AI tools such as Claude naturally as a sounding board to challenge ideas and test variations faster.
•Self-directed and hands-on: You enjoy doing the work yourself, from concept to finished campaign. You make data-based decisions and take responsibility for them. Following the Freedom & Responsibility principle, you shape your work independently and decide how best to proceed.
•Proactive and curious: You drive topics forward independently and do not wait for instructions. The ways to reach people with digital products are constantly changing, and you enjoy learning about new topics.
•Interest in our target audience: Our users are 64 years old on average and deal with sensitive topics such as provision planning, estate matters and care. You want to understand what matters to them and address them respectfully.
•Language skills: You speak and write German at native level, because you write ads and landing pages about topics that matter to entire families, where every word counts.
Conditions
•Salary transparency: We practice open salaries across the entire team. The salary for this role is between €50,000 and €80,000.
•In addition to the usual benefits (BVG ticket, flexible work-from-home arrangement, 30 days of vacation), we also offer you the opportunity to share in Afilio's business success.
•We offer flexible work in a hybrid model: You work with us in our bright office in Berlin-Mitte for most of the week. For focused work or personal flexibility, we also naturally offer the opportunity to work from home regularly.
•What matters to us is not only what you can do today, but also what you want to achieve tomorrow. We offer you the opportunity to take on responsibility quickly, develop your skills and actively contribute to the company's success.
•We provide our employees with access to the Nilo.health mental health platform. Among other things, it supports you through one-to-one sessions with certified psychologists and psychotherapists. We believe mental health comes first and want to ensure you have the resources and support you need.
