Internal Tools Engineer (Remote, Full-time)

In short

A stealth-stage fund and quant-strategy startup is hiring someone to take over and evolve its internal platform used by operations, finance and delivery teams for money movement, work tracking and reporting. The job is mostly ops-minded engineering: turning spreadsheet processes into real workflows, building data capture and reporting, and working directly with the founder with no layers in between. It demands range across Python or TypeScript, SQL/data modelling and basic infrastructure, strong written English (C1+), daily use of AI tooling, and discretion with sensitive financial data — this is a fully remote, full-time contractor role paid in USD with at least 4 hours of overlap with US time zones.

Location: Fully remote
Job Title: Internal Platform Engineer
About us
We're a stealth-stage fund and tech startup at the intersection of alternative markets and quantitative strategy. Lean team, big ambition. Almost everything we do runs on software we built ourselves, and the pace of the business is set by how good that software is.
The role
You'll own our internal platform: the systems our operations, finance and delivery teams use every day to move money, track work, sync communications and see what's actually happening in the business. One person built most of it. You take it over, make it dependable, and then extend it. You'll sit with the people doing the work, find what costs them the most hours, and fix it. Judgment about what to build matters more than depth in any one stack. You'll work directly with the founder, no layers.
What you'll do
•Take over existing systems, document them, and remove dependency on any single person
•Build the data capture and reporting leadership currently lacks
•Turn spreadsheet-based processes into real workflows, one at a time
•Decide what to build next and explain why
•Send short weekly written updates: honest dates, early warnings
What we're looking for
•Experience as the engineer an ops team depended on, ideally early at a startup
•Strong written English (C1 or higher). You can explain a technical tradeoff to a non-technical reader in a paragraph
•Experience working with US or EU companies or teams
•Ops-minded first, engineer second: you'd rather ship the boring fix that saves ten hours a week
•Range: application development (Python or TypeScript), integrations between third-party tools, SQL and data modelling, basic infrastructure
•Daily use of AI tooling to work at a multiple of normal pace
•Autonomy and reliability in remote work
•Discretion with sensitive data and money-adjacent workflows
Nice to have
•Inherited an undocumented system and made it dependable
•Payments, reconciliation, multi-account financial tooling
•Fintech, marketplaces, logistics, or other ops-heavy businesses
•Notion, Airtable, Discord, Google Workspace, Retool, n8n/Zapier
•Interest in startups, investing, alternative markets
Working setup
•Fully remote, full-time
•Flexible hours with a required overlap of at least 4 hours with US time zones: [e.g., 16:00-20:00 CET / 10:00-14:00 ET, to be confirmed]
•Contractor engagement, paid in USD (bank transfer or crypto)
•Compensation: [range, e.g., $X-Y/month], depending on experience
•Start: ASAP
Hiring process
10-min intro call, 30-min behavioral interview, short async work assessment, interview with the founder
