Proxima Fusion

Infrastructure Program Manager

In short

This role owns and manages infrastructure and site development schedules across Proxima Fusion's Alpha and Stellaris programs, translating detailed site-level planning into the company's integrated master schedule. The company is a Munich-based, well-funded fusion energy startup spun out of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, building commercial stellarator power plants. The position sits within a small, fast-scaling TechOps/program team and requires experience managing infrastructure or site schedules on complex capital programs, comfort with federated schedule structures, strong cross-functional communication, and fluency in English (German is a strong advantage).

About Proxima Fusion
Proxima Fusion is Europe's fastest-growing fusion company and the continent's best-funded fusion player, as well as the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world's first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. Our concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach. Turning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.
Responsibilities
You are the bridge between detailed infrastructure planning and the single integrated master schedule that governs Alpha's delivery. Without dedicated infrastructure schedule ownership, dependencies like infrastructure readiness for the magnet factory (drainage, cryo supply, extraction systems) quietly fall behind because nobody owns translating detailed site-level planning into the program-level view leadership actually uses to make decisions. You make sure that never happens by accident.
•Own and actively manage all infrastructure and siting project schedules across Alpha and Stellaris - buildings, utilities, permitting milestones, and site readiness
•Translate infrastructure-specific schedule detail into validated, structured inputs for the Master Scheduler's integrated master schedule, ensuring infrastructure milestones, dependencies, and readiness dates are correctly reflected
•Identify infrastructure-specific critical path items and interdependencies - for example, infrastructure readiness depending on equipment or magnet-line arrival dates - and flag risks early
•Partner closely with the Master Scheduler, Risk & Change Manager, and Individual Project Managers (Alpha Construction Project Manager, Site Development Program Manager's team) to keep infrastructure schedules and the integrated timeline in sync
•Maintain infrastructure milestone governance discipline across all programs, ensuring consistent coding and leveling conventions
•Support gate-readiness by preparing infrastructure-specific schedule status inputs ahead of release gate decisions
Requirements
•Experienced in managing infrastructure or site development schedules on complex capital programs, ideally spanning multiple sites or projects in parallel
•Comfortable working with a federated schedule structure - translating detailed infrastructure planning into a broader integrated programme view
•Strong cross-functional communicator, able to align site project managers and technical teams with the Master Scheduler's baseline
•Fluent in English; German is a strong advantage given the permitting and contractor landscape
•Comfortable operating with high autonomy in a fast-scaling, still-being-built environment
Interview process
•Recruiter Interview (30-60 min)
•Technical Screening (60 min)
•Technical Panel (2x60 min)
About the role / team
Build the machine that builds the machine. Join TechOps at the forefront of advanced manufacturing - we're building the production system that will enable commercial fusion. The Production lines, tooling, and processes are being developed from the ground up; you'll create the ways of working, not inherit them. Work at the frontier of manufacturing technology. Bring your creativity to evaluate, qualify, and deploy processes with no industry playbook - every component you build and every process you shape goes directly into the core of the stellarator magnet technology. Do work that matters, and see it grow. The hardware you build is the product and your career grows with it, from prototyping and process development through quality and industrialization, alongside exceptional colleagues from around the world. Make an impact you can point to. In a small, fast-moving team, your calls on equipment, quality, and process directly shape how a world-class deep-tech company produces superconducting magnets with results visible on the shop floor, not buried in a slidedeck.
