STARK

frontend developer for command-and-control software

In short

Senior frontend role building framework-less, high-performance interfaces in Vanilla TypeScript/Web Components for command-and-control mission management software used with autonomous defence systems. The company builds AI-driven defence technology for NATO Allies, and the role requires deep native web platform expertise, experience optimizing for constrained hardware and real-time telemetry, and eligibility for security clearance. Onsite in Berlin, with travel required.

About
STARK develops AI-driven defence technology, including autonomous defence platforms and advanced software for NATO Allies and their partners. Its Minerva Frontline command-and-control software connects operators to autonomous systems across multiple domains in real time.
Responsibilities
•Build and evolve a robust, high-performance frontend architecture for mission management software
•Engineer optimized frontend solutions for high-frequency telemetry and asynchronous data streams while minimizing computational load and preserving battery life on field devices
•Translate complex data into clear, deterministic, error-tolerant interfaces that provide situational awareness for operators under stress
•Challenge APIs and data structures when they threaten frontend performance or the operator experience
•Set architectural guardrails for agentic AI workflows, validate outputs, and solve integration and quality challenges
•Build framework-less user interfaces with Vanilla TypeScript and Web Components for low-bandwidth and air-gapped environments
•Share knowledge, contribute to system design, and facilitate open, fact-based technical discussions
Requirements
•Deep practical expertise in Vanilla TypeScript/JavaScript and the native web platform, including DOM API, Event Loop, and Memory Management
•Ability to anticipate hardware constraints, manage latency and data bursts, and optimize for constrained compute and battery life
•Practical experience integrating agent-based coding tools, structuring architecture for AI, validating outputs, and addressing integration challenges
•Ability to balance rapid delivery with critical evaluation of requirements and technical decisions from the operator's perspective
•Maturity to moderate technical decisions, compromise, and put the mission above personal ego
•Ability to travel as needed
•Eligible to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the position
Nice to have
•Experience building comprehensive design systems, preferably with native Web Components
•Real-time data streaming architectures such as WebSockets or WebRTC
•High-frequency telemetry
•Geographic mapping, GIS, or complex Canvas/WebGL rendering in the browser
•Experience with unmanned systems, preferably command-and-control, mission management, or operator-facing software
