About the role
We are looking for experienced field salespeople who are comfortable visiting businesses, starting conversations with owners, and convincing new merchants. As an independent field sales advisor, you will sell SumUp's payment, point-of-sale, and software solutions to small and medium-sized businesses in your region. You will identify your own prospects, manage your opportunity pipeline, and support customers as they get started. You will need experience in cold prospecting and enjoy face-to-face field sales. You will run your own business and organise your sales activities independently, while benefiting from SumUp's training and support.
Responsibilities
•Find new customers through face-to-face visits, door-to-door prospecting, and direct outreach.
•Target local businesses with high payment volumes that could benefit from SumUp products.
•Ask questions about how each business operates and recommend suitable payment, hardware, point-of-sale, and software solutions.
•Manage the sales process from the first conversation through product demonstrations, handling objections, and closing, as part of the partnership.
•Help customers set up and start using their SumUp products.
•Build relationships with business owners and ask satisfied customers for referrals.
•Plan your visits and follow-ups to make the most of your time in the field.
•Track your activity, opportunities, and sales results, and provide the information needed to process sales.
•Speak with your SumUp contact to benefit from their product expertise and sales advice.
Requirements
•At least one year of field sales experience in sectors such as telecommunications, energy, business technology, waste management, security systems, or food and beverage supply.
•Experience in cold prospecting, including approaching businesses face to face and finding your own prospects.
•Experience selling to small and medium-sized businesses and dealing directly with owners or decision-makers.
•Demonstrable results in acquiring new customers and meeting sales targets. We will ask you for examples of your achievements and how you achieved them.
•The ability to manage a sales process from first contact to closing, including handling questions and objections.
•Good organisational skills and rigorous follow-up.
•The ability to handle rejection, learn from feedback, and persevere.
•A good understanding of self-employed status and a willingness to grow your customer portfolio.
•The ability to travel within your sales territory to meet prospects and customers regularly.
Nice to have
•An existing network of local business owners who could benefit from SumUp products.
•Experience in payments, merchant services, or point-of-sale systems.
•Telephone sales experience is an advantage, but you must also have sold face to face in the field.
Conditions
This is a self-employed role paid exclusively by commission, with no base salary or guaranteed minimum income. Commissions are uncapped and depend on your sales results and the activity of the merchants you bring on.
The commission scheme includes, under the Partner terms:
•Payments: 50% of the annualised net revenue from transactions.
•Hardware: 50% of the sale price set out in the rate card.
•Software and subscriptions: 50% of the annual amount set out in the rate card.
•Residual income: 20% of the monthly net revenue generated by the merchants you bring on, for a maximum period of three years.
•Welcome benefit: three times the usual residual commission amount during the first three months.
•Additional bonuses linked to certain products or sales campaigns.
New partners receive the Partner terms during the launch period. Continued eligibility is then subject to the programme's activity criteria; an Agent rate card of 40%, with no residual commissions, may apply. Eligibility conditions, calculation bases, and payment terms are specified in the contract and presented before any commitment. Commissions are before deduction of your business expenses, social security contributions, and applicable taxes.
We will help you become familiar with the products and how to sell them through an initial programme and ongoing support covering prospecting, sales meetings, demonstrations, objection handling, and customer support. Details of the initial programme and the prerequisites for selling will be provided before you start. Your SumUp contact will also support you with territory development, opportunity analysis, and sales advice, while respecting your independence in organising your work.
