Backend go developer in fintech

In short

Senior backend Go developer role at Axo Group, a Nordic fintech loan-broker company, building and operating event-driven Go services on AWS (Lambda, EventBridge, SQS) with PostgreSQL. The role includes architectural leadership, AI-agent-assisted development workflows, GDPR/EU AI Act compliance, and mentoring mid-level/junior engineers. Requires 5+ years backend experience, strong Go (or adjacent typed/compiled language) skills, and hybrid work from Lisbon.

About
Axo Group is a Fintech company and the go-to loan broker in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. They operate across the Nordics through their brands: Axo Finans, LendMe and Axolania and have been in the market for more than 10 years. Axo acts as a broker between consumers looking to refinance and consolidate unsecured debt (credit cards and unsecured loans) and banks all over the Nordics.
Responsibilities
•Own complete backend feature development from spec through deployment — Go services on AWS
•Lead architectural discussions and document decisions in ADRs and LLD/HLD documents
•Build and review AI agent workflows using Claude Code, or equivalent tools — delegate implementation, review all output
•Design and operate scalable, event-driven services — APIs, queues and jobs (e.g. Go on Lambda, EventBridge, SQS)
•Integrate with internal platform services and third-party APIs (credit, CRM / marketing-automation, CMS)
•Enforce GDPR and EU AI Act compliance requirements in every feature — data privacy is architecture, not a checkbox
•Mentor mid-level and junior engineers; set the bar for code quality and AI-assisted development practices
Requirements
•5+ years backend experience; 2+ years of production Go strongly preferred — strong backend engineers from an adjacent typed/compiled language (e.g. Rust, Java, C#, Kotlin) willing to move to Go will be considered (see Additional Information)
•Strong command of Go concurrency — goroutines, channels, context — and idiomatic Go
•Solid API design (REST and/or gRPC) with clear domain boundaries
•Writes clean, structured code using best practices (SOLID, clear domain boundaries, DTOs)
•Deep relational-database experience (PostgreSQL): schema design, performance, query optimization
•Experience designing scalable, event-driven systems (queues, jobs, APIs, integrations)
•Knowledge of testing (Go test, table-driven) and static analysis tooling
•Comfortable with debugging, performance tuning, and zero-downtime deployments
•Cloud-native on AWS — Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, RDS (serverless, event-driven patterns)
•Comfortable operating services in production — monitoring, alerting, incident response
•Infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD for backend services
•Containerisation (Docker) and service-to-service integration
Nice to have
•Existing daily use of agentic coding tools - able to describe and demonstrate a personal AI development workflow and tooling setup (e.g. CLAUDE.md, project rules, context engineering) - is a strong plus, not a prerequisite
•PHP/Laravel familiarity for legacy touchpoints
•TypeScript/React exposure for front-end integration work
•Experience in regulated / fintech environments (GDPR, financial data)
•Observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logging)
Conditions
•2 times a week work from Lisbon office (Avenida da Liberdade, Nr. 36, 7th floor, Lisbon)
•3 days a week from home
