AI platform engineer in aviation

In short

A hands-on Staff AI Platform Engineer role at an international aviation group in Barcelona, building a next-generation AI-powered Internal Developer Platform used by hundreds of engineers and data scientists. Requires strong experience with Python and Go, cloud (preferably AWS), Kubernetes, AI-native engineering workflows, and around 10+ years of software engineering experience, with technical leadership and mentoring expected. Hybrid, 2 days per week in the Barcelona office, professional English required.

About the Role
We are looking for a Staff AI Platform Engineer to join a leading international group in the aviation sector, based in Barcelona. You will join a team accelerating the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across the organization by building the next-generation AI-powered Internal Developer Platform, used by hundreds of engineers and data scientists to build, deploy, and operate software faster, more securely, and more autonomously. This is a predominantly hands-on role.
Responsibilities
•Design, build, and evolve reusable platform capabilities: AI agents and agentic development workflows
•Develop AI-powered CLIs and self-service tools for developers
•Build Kubernetes Operators and controllers
•Design platform APIs and SDKs
•Create Golden Paths, developer portals, and self-service workflows
•Implement policy engines and automated governance workflows
•Develop CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions
•Solve the platform's most complex and critical problems, setting the standard with production-quality code and reusable components
•Define technical direction and engineering standards through code, reviews, and pair programming, reducing ambiguity with prototypes rather than documents
•Work directly with engineers and data scientists to identify friction and measurably improve their productivity
•Prototype emerging AI capabilities and incorporate AI-native practices into the development lifecycle (SDLC)
•Drive the cloud and DevSecOps foundation, primarily on AWS
•Mentor other engineers and communicate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders, managing risk, technical debt, and compliance
Requirements
•Significant experience designing and building development platforms or large-scale software platforms, with a focus on developer experience, reliability, and scalability
•Experience with platforms used by large engineering organizations (hundreds of engineers across multiple teams), while retaining the agility to prototype and deliver without heavy processes
•A proven track record of delivering production software with Python (primary language) and Go for system-level components (e.g., Kubernetes Operators and controllers)
•Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale platform capabilities hands-on: SDKs, CLIs, platform APIs, or similar
•Strong experience with cloud architecture and services, preferably AWS
•Experience using AI-native engineering workflows (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate delivery
•Familiarity with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD/Flux)
•Leadership based on technical credibility and hands-on work, with the ability to mentor and guide teams
•As a general guideline, around 10+ years of software engineering experience is valued (not a strict requirement; demonstrated impact and the depth of what you have built matter more)
•Your previous industry is not relevant: platform and developer experience skills are transferable
•Deep learning experience is not required, but experience with agentic systems is
•Professional English is essential (the working environment is 100% in English)
•You are passionate about building tools that make other engineers much more productive. You solve difficult problems with simple, elegant designs, are genuinely curious about AI, and constantly experiment with new ways to improve productivity
•You are comfortable with ambiguity, validate ideas quickly with code and prototypes, and balance pragmatism with a long-term technical vision
•Availability to work from the Barcelona office 2 days per week
•Desired start date: immediate
Nice to Have
•Experience building AI agents or agentic development workflows
•Experience with Backstage plugins or Internal Developer Platforms (TypeScript / React)
•Experience with LLMs, RAG, MCP, or AI infrastructure
•Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms
•Contributions to open-source projects or developer tools
Conditions
•Flexible hours
•Hybrid working model, supporting work-life balance
•Competitive salary and flexible benefits plan
•Private health insurance
•Annual budget for training and professional development
•Language courses
•Participation in technology communities and industry events
•Ongoing support and professional guidance
•A development and growth plan tailored to your goals
