Buxlow Advisory

Account executive in communications

In short

This role covers press releases, media pitching, client prep and political monitoring at a small, senior-led London communications consultancy founded by two former Government special advisers. The team has just 3 people, so the job demands broad involvement from drafting to admin and offers more responsibility and client contact than a larger consultancy. It requires at least a year of agency or in-house experience, strong writing, political awareness and comfort working with senior people, with a minimum of 4 days a week in the central London office.

About Buxlow
Buxlow is a small, focused communications consultancy led by two former Government special advisers. We offer a senior-led, delivery-focused service to individuals in public life, organisations and companies, across reputation management, issues and crisis communications, and campaigns to change policy. After a year in business, we are now a team of 3 and looking to grow.
Responsibilities
•Drafting press releases, op-eds and briefing notes
•Pitching stories to national, trade and broadcast journalists
•Preparing clients for interviews and meetings
•Tracking developments in Westminster and Whitehall, from select committee hearings to government consultations
•Deliver the response when an issue breaks, which occasionally means working outside normal hours and weekends
•The essential, but sometimes unglamorous, groundwork that keeps a growing consultancy running: media monitoring, press lists, stakeholder mapping and account admin like client call actions and agendas
Requirements
•At least 1 year experience in an agency or in-house
•Someone who wants more freedom, responsibility, client contact and room to grow than a larger consultancy would offer, and who will enjoy helping to shape a firm as it grows
•An excellent writer, able to produce clear, accurate copy quickly for a journalist, a minister or a chief executive, and equally comfortable drafting social media content
•Follows politics and the news closely, understands how government works, and knows when a story matters to a client
•Keen to get out and meet contacts, and to build lasting relationships across the media and political landscape
•Curious about new tools and confident using AI to work faster and smarter
•Confident around senior people and comfortable taking ownership without the structure of a larger firm
•Organised, discreet, good humoured and calm under pressure
Conditions
•The salary is £30,000-£35,000 depending on experience, with significant room to progress as Buxlow grows.
•The role is based in our central London office, with a minimum 4 days a week in the office.
