Technical Support Engineer

In short

Technical Support Engineer role at Signetbreedband (part of team.blue), the business connectivity specialist, focused on resolving incidents, implementing changes, and delivering network solutions for business clients on networks the company manages. The team works with FortiGate, Cisco, SD-WAN and multi-site VPN setups, so a solid grounding in TCP/IP, VLAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN and routing plus practical firewall/network equipment experience is required, along with strong Dutch and English communication. It's a hands-on, escalating-complexity role in a small, close-knit team in Eindhoven/Arnhem, hybrid, with a €1,500 annual study budget for certifications like CCNA or Fortinet.

"Come as you are"
Everyone is welcome here. Diversity & Inclusion are at our core. Far above any technical competence, we value respect, openness, and trusted collaboration. We do not tolerate intolerance.
At Signetbreedband, it is all about connectivity
Do you want to grow further in networking and would you rather work on real client networks than standard IT support? At Signetbreedband, you work on the networks that companies run on every day. From SD-WAN solutions to multi-site configurations with redundant connections: no two days are the same. As the connectivity specialist for the business market, we deliver internet and network services that really matter.
As a Technical Support Engineer – Networking, you are the technical point of contact for our business clients. You analyze and resolve incidents, implement changes, and deliver network solutions, together with experienced colleagues from Support and Network & Solutions.
You don't have to know everything already. We are looking for someone with a solid technical foundation, an analytical mind, and the drive to further develop their skills in business networking.
What does your day look like?
•Customer contact with IT professionals: you communicate daily with IT staff from other companies regarding the network environments we manage. As a result, the issues are more substantive than in a standard support department, which is precisely what makes the work interesting.
•Analyzing and resolving incidents: you investigate malfunctions and queries in customer networks, ranging from a VPN tunnel that fails to connect to a VLAN or routing problem, and you keep searching until you find the cause. If you can't figure it out immediately, you consult with colleagues and learn from the solution.
•Executing changes: you implement changes to customers' firewall, router, switch, and VPN configurations, including on FortiGate and Cisco platforms. As your experience grows, you take on increasingly complex changes and escalations.
•Delivery of network solutions: you configure and deliver network environments to customers, ranging from simple connectivity to multi-site setups.
•Collaborate and share knowledge: you work closely with Service Delivery and Network & Solutions, document your solutions, and share what you learn with your teammates.
Who are you?
You are technically curious and find it important that a customer is helped not only quickly, but also well. You work easily both independently and as part of a team, and a steep learning curve does not deter you. You do not just solve the problem you encounter, but uncover what is really going on and think ahead to arrive at a structural solution.
We are not looking for someone who can already tick every technical box. We consider a solid foundation, technical curiosity, and the ability to solve problems in a structured way more important than the number of years on your CV.
What do you bring?
•Relevant work experience in a technical IT, support, or network environment, where you independently analyze technical incidents
•Basic knowledge of TCP/IP and network concepts such as VLAN, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing
•Practical experience with network equipment, firewalls, and/or VPNs
•Strong communication skills in Dutch and English, both by phone and email
•Ownership: you take responsibility for a problem until it is truly solved
•The ambition to further develop yourself in business networking and connectivity
Bonus Points (and if not, you can learn it here)
Do you already have experience with one or more of the topics below? That's a nice bonus. If not, you can build that knowledge with us. We do not expect you to have mastered all of this already.
•FortiGate and/or Cisco
•SD-WAN and multi-site VPN environments
•Routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
•ISP network environments and carrier-grade infrastructure
•Cisco CCNA, a Fortinet certification, or similar
•Linux (command line, bash scripting)
•Monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Grafana, LibreNMS, Icinga)
•Automation with, for example, Ansible
Do you already have extensive experience and can you handle complex network issues independently? In that case, we would also like to hear from you. Within the salary scale, there is room to take your experience into account.
Growth path
At Signetbreedband, you work daily alongside engineers who know routing, SD-WAN, and carrier networks inside out. That knowledge is close at hand, and we actively help you build it yourself.
•You will grow from independently solving routine cases to handling complex escalations and changes.
•Do you want to obtain a CCNA or Fortinet certification? We will actively support you with that, including through your study budget.
•You can specialize in the direction that suits you best: routing, security, monitoring, or automation.
•As you grow, you will also become a technical point of contact for colleagues and share your knowledge.
What do we offer?
•Annual study budget of €1,500 for certifications, training, or a course of your choice
•An internal learning platform offering a very extensive range of learning materials through collaboration with external platforms
•Hybrid working: a combination of working at the office (Eindhoven/Arnhem) and from home
•27 vacation days (based on full-time employment)
•Pension scheme and travel allowance
•Company laptop and phone (allowance)
•An informal, collegial working atmosphere in a small, close-knit team
•Working on challenging business networking environments, not standard helpdesk work
•Short lines of communication with experienced network engineers and room for personal initiative
