NVIDIA

System Software Engineer - Trusted Firmware

In short

This role develops system software for ARM's Trusted Firmware Stack, covering early boot, EL3 runtime services, power management, and OS/hypervisor interfaces for NVIDIA's Tegra platform. It also involves building agentic AI workflows for firmware engineering tasks like debugging, test execution, and validation. The role requires 5+ years of system software experience, strong C/C++ and low-level debugging skills, and deep OS and computer architecture knowledge (MMU, Cache Coherency, TLB, Timers, ISRs). NVIDIA, a major GPU and AI computing company, posts this for its Santa Clara, CA office.

About the Role
As a Tegra System Software Engineer at NVIDIA, you will play a pivotal role in crafting the next generation of computing. Our team is dedicated to developing world-class systems and solutions that power everything from AI to self-driving cars. Join us in Santa Clara, CA, USA, and contribute to projects that are as ambitious as they are impactful.
What you'll be doing:
•Designing, crafting and developing system software relevant to ARM's Trusted Firmware Stack.
•Build and improve agentic workflows for trusted firmware engineering, spanning tasks such as codebase exploration, change planning, implementation support, bring-up, debugging, test execution, and documentation.
•Create reusable workflow components, tools, or skills that connect AI assistants to approved engineering context and systems, such as source repositories, technical documentation, issue trackers, build environments, and test infrastructure.
•Define clear validation and review steps for AI-assisted work. Evaluate generated changes and results for correctness, security, reliability, and maintainability before they are integrated.
•Work across firmware and system software interfaces, including early boot, EL3 runtime services, power management, operating system and hypervisors.
•Involving in sophisticated and next generation CPU architecture that drives our Tegra platform.
•Work with upstream community to develop software for latest ARM technologies such as Confidential Compute and help drive improvements to various specs such as PSCI, FFA, RMI.
•Participate in architectural explorations which include feasibility studies, safety evaluations and CPU performance analysis.
What we need to see:
•BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
•5+ years of proven experience in system software development.
•Strong software engineering experience in C or C++ and the ability to debug low-level software.
•Experience developing or integrating firmware, embedded software, kernel-level software, or other hardware-adjacent system software.
•Deep understanding of operating system fundamentals and computer architecture concepts such as MMU, Cache Coherency, TLB, Timers, ISRs is a must.
•Knowledge in Safety and Security standards such as ISO26262, CERT-C and MISRA-C would be a plus.
•Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools for software engineering tasks such as firmware debugging, regression triage, log analysis, test generation and technical research.
•Experience building AI agents or engineering assistants using retrieval-augmented generation, tool use or function calling, agent skills, or multi-step orchestration is a plus.
