GE Vernova

Stage - Ingénieur R&D Simulation numérique de transformateur de tension F/H

In short

This is an internship role at GE Vernova's Villeurbanne industrial site, part of the High Voltage Switchgear (HVS) product line, focused on modeling high-voltage GIS measurement transformers. The intern will build an analytical electrical and thermal model to calculate transformer heating, covering state of the art review, thermal parameter definition, model analysis and performance improvement proposals. It requires engineering students (4th/5th year) in Electrical Engineering, Energy or Mechanics, with knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and numerical simulation, and fluency in French and English. The internship lasts 5-6 months, starting in early February 2027.

Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is a global energy company organized into three segments: Power, Wind and Electrification. With more than 130 years of experience solving global challenges, GE Vernova is ideally positioned to play a leading role in the energy transition, continuing to electrify the world while working on its decarbonization, with more than 70,000 employees across more than 100 countries. GE Vernova's Electrification segment provides advanced grid technologies and systems, enabling the transmission and distribution of energy from the point of generation to the point of consumption, and supports a secure, decarbonized energy transition.
At its industrial site located in Villeurbanne (France), GE Vernova designs, tests and manufactures high-voltage circuit breakers for national and international grid operators and industrial customers.
Job Description
Role Presentation
The internship will take place at the industrial site in Villeurbanne, which is part of the HVS (High Voltage Switchgear) product line, which offers a range of equipment allowing portions of an electrical network to be energized or de-energized, such as high-voltage circuit breakers and disconnectors. HVS has 12 units in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, USA, Brazil, China and India.
The internship will focus on the modeling of high-voltage GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) measurement transformers. The intern will participate in setting up an analytical model (electrical and thermal) to calculate the heating of a transformer in operation.
Missions
The topic will be organized around 4 main areas:
•State of the art of heating modeling for measurement transformers
•Definition of thermal calculation parameters
•Model and results analysis, presentation to the project team
•Proposals for improving thermal performance
Depending on the profile, the topic may also extend to related subjects linked to project needs (database processing, design criteria, dielectric calculations)
Education
•Engineering school, 4th/5th year: Electrical Engineering – Energy – Mechanics
Required Knowledge
•French / English: spoken and written – Curiosity, innovation and teamwork spirit, Adaptability
•Knowledge: Energy – Fluid mechanics – Thermodynamics – Mechanics
•Skills: Numerical simulation using finite element/finite volume methods – Programming
•Preferred tools: AMESIM – ANSYS – COMSOL – Python – C#
Internship/Apprenticeship Start Date and Duration
Duration: 5-6 months
Start date: Early February 2027
