Mirantis

Observability Platform Engineer (Neocloud)

In short

Senior Observability Platform Engineer role at Mirantis, a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure company, to design and build observability platform components (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting) for large-scale production infrastructure. The role requires hands-on experience building observability platforms from scratch, deep knowledge of tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki, and strong software engineering skills in Go, Python, or Rust plus Kubernetes experience. It's a remote position based in Barcelona, focused on reducing MTTD/MTTR and defining SLO/SLI frameworks with operations teams.

About Mirantis
Mirantis provides Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure that enables organizations to build and operate scalable, secure, and sovereign infrastructure for AI, machine learning, and data-intensive applications. Its platform combines open-source innovation with Kubernetes orchestration and supports deployment across on-premises, cloud, edge, and sovereign data center environments.
Responsibilities
•Design, build, and operate observability platform components for large-scale infrastructure environments, including metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and alerting
•Build telemetry pipelines for high-cardinality, high-volume infrastructure data, balancing cost, retention, and query performance
•Define and implement SLO/SLI frameworks and alerting strategies that reduce noise and surface meaningful signals to on-call engineers
•Partner with service delivery and operations teams to understand incident-response needs and build observability solutions for them
•Integrate observability tools with incident management workflows, including root-cause analysis support and post-incident review data
•Improve detection speed and reduce MTTD and MTTR across the platform
•Contribute to the roadmap for AI-assisted operations tooling, including automated triage, anomaly detection, and engineer-assist tooling
•Own the reliability, scalability, and security of the observability stack
•Document architecture, runbooks, and operational practices
Requirements
•Proven experience designing and building observability platforms for large-scale production infrastructure, including building rather than only using an existing setup
•Hands-on experience with metrics, logging, and distributed tracing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki, Thanos/Cortex/Mimir, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Jaeger/Tempo, or equivalents
•Experience with high-volume telemetry pipelines and tradeoffs involving cardinality, retention, cost, and query latency
•Strong software engineering skills in at least one commonly used language, such as Go, Python, or Rust
•Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure
•Understanding of SLO/SLI/error-budget practices and low-noise alerting design
•Ability to work in a fast-moving environment where the platform is built alongside the infrastructure it monitors
•Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with operations and service delivery teams to understand incident-response needs
Nice to have
•Observability for GPU/HPC or other specialized high-performance compute environments
•eBPF-based observability tooling
•AIOps or ML-based anomaly detection or automated triage systems
•Managed services or MSP experience where observability drives customer-facing SLAs
•Contributions to open-source observability projects
Conditions
•Location: Barcelona
•Professional development and training
•Attendance at conferences and working groups
•Company outings, happy hours, hackathons, and tech talks
•Competitive compensation package with a strong benefits plan
