Management Consultant - Operational Excellence (Location: Papua)

In short

Accenture is hiring a Management Consultant to deliver Operational Excellence and business transformation programs within mining and asset-intensive operations, working on-site in Papua. The role requires diagnosing performance gaps, designing and implementing improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, RCA), and engaging stakeholders from frontline teams to senior management. It demands 3–5 years of relevant experience in mining, heavy industry, operational improvement, or management consulting, plus a relevant engineering, business or science degree. A large global professional services firm, this posting sits within its mining/industrial transformation practice.

About the Role
Accenture is seeking a Management Consultant to support Operational Excellence and business transformation programs within mining and asset-intensive operations. You will work directly with operational leaders and frontline teams to identify performance gaps, design practical improvements, and deliver measurable and sustainable business outcomes.
The role combines management consulting, data-driven problem solving, and hands-on operational improvement, with a focus on safety, productivity, cost optimization, asset performance, and operational capability.
Key Responsibilities
•Deliver Operational Excellence initiatives across mining operations, maintenance and asset performance, processing, productivity, and supporting operational functions.
•Diagnose performance gaps using operational data, process observations, stakeholder interviews, and structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
•Design and implement improvement initiatives that enhance safety, productivity, equipment effectiveness, cost performance, and operational reliability.
•Apply Operational Excellence methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, process improvement, and performance management.
•Develop business cases, improvement roadmaps, implementation plans, KPI frameworks, and performance dashboards to measure benefits and sustain results.
•Work closely with operational leaders, supervisors, and frontline teams to implement new processes and ways of working, rather than limiting recommendations to analysis and strategy.
•Manage project milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, benefits realization, and stakeholder communications in accordance with project governance and PMO requirements.
•Facilitate workshops and problem-solving sessions, communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders, and build leadership alignment around improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geology, Business, Economics, Information Systems, or another relevant discipline.
•Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience, preferably within mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, operational improvement, or management consulting.
•Demonstrated experience delivering Operational Excellence, business improvement, productivity, cost optimization, asset performance, maintenance improvement, or operational transformation initiatives.
•Experience working on improvement or transformation projects beyond routine day-to-day operational responsibilities.
•Strong quantitative analysis, structured problem-solving, business case development, and project management capabilities.
•Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, including the ability to work effectively with frontline operations through senior management.
•Willingness and ability to work on-site in Papua for the project assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience in large-scale mining environments, including open-pit or underground mining, mineral processing, mobile equipment, fixed plant, or maintenance operations.
•Hands-on knowledge of methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), OEE, or similar continuous-improvement approaches.
•Experience establishing and tracking operational KPIs covering equipment availability, utilization, productivity, throughput, maintenance performance, or cost.
•Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is advantageous.
•MBA or postgraduate qualification with a focus on operations, strategy, or business transformation is an advantage.
