Building a new insurance platform for a US specialty insurer to replace the legacy system supporting its core business operations.
What you will do
•Design the core policy ledger with effective-dated changes, endorsements, cancellations, renewals, and a complete audit trail.
•Build a configurable rating engine that allows underwriters to manage rates and rules without code changes.
•Develop reliable Celery-based background workflows for billing schedules, renewal batches, notices, and event processing.
•Integrate approximately 20 external vendors for payments, property data, e-signatures, printing, and mail through a unified integration layer.
•Migrate policy, billing, and claims data from the legacy system without financial discrepancies.
•Set engineering standards, review code, unblock the team, and demonstrate progress to the client regularly.
Requirements
•7+ years of backend engineering experience, primarily with Python.
•Production experience with FastAPI or a similar framework, Celery or another task queue, and PostgreSQL database modeling and optimization.
•Experience designing a system from scratch and owning it in production.
•Production AWS experience with Docker, Terraform or a similar tool, and self-established CI/CD.
•Experience with financial or transactional data, including ledgers, money, and date-sensitive records.
•Clear spoken and written English for regular client communication.
