GlobalLogic

Java backend engineer in banking

In short

Senior backend engineer role at a global financial institution, building robust, scalable microservices in a hybrid setup based in London. The work spans REST API design, event-driven services with Kafka, domain-driven design, and integration testing, using Java 17+, Spring Boot 3, Gradle, MapStruct and Feign. Requires strong hands-on Java/Spring experience and proven microservices architecture background; containerization, CI/CD and cloud experience are a plus.

About the Role
An established global financial institution renowned for providing innovative banking, investment, and financial services to millions of customers worldwide. The company undertakes large-scale technology initiatives while prioritizing digital transformation, security, and continuous innovation. We're looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to design and build robust, scalable microservices. You'll work across the full backend stack — from API design through to production-grade integration testing — using modern Java and Spring technologies.
Responsibilities
•Design, build, and maintain backend microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3
•Design and implement clean, well-documented REST APIs
•Build event-driven services using Kafka for asynchronous communication
•Apply domain-driven design principles to structure services around business capabilities
•Use MapStruct for clean object mapping and Feign for service-to-service communication
•Manage builds and dependencies using Gradle
•Write meaningful integration tests (not just unit tests) to ensure real-world reliability
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, maintainable code
Requirements
•Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3
•Proven experience building and maintaining microservices architectures
•Practical experience with Kafka (producers, consumers, event-driven patterns)
•Strong understanding of REST API design best practices
•Proficiency with Gradle for build management
•Familiarity with MapStruct and Feign
•Working knowledge of domain-driven design (DDD) patterns
•An integration-testing mindset — comfortable testing services in realistic, end-to-end scenarios, not just isolated units
Nice to Have
•Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes)
•Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
•Experience working in cloud-native environments (AWS/Azure/GCP)
