About the Role
We are looking for an equity research generalist to develop and expand our coverage of Chinese companies listed in the US and Hong Kong, with potential expansion into Mainland China's equity markets. The role combines fundamental research across multiple sectors, financial modeling, and the development of investment recommendations.
Responsibilities
•Independently initiate and maintain research coverage of Chinese companies listed in the US and Hong Kong, including regular updates to investment ratings and price targets.
•Evaluate companies across multiple sectors, focusing on business models, competitive positioning, growth prospects, and key investment risks.
•Develop and maintain detailed financial models and publish initiation reports, earnings updates, and other equity research reports, supported by fundamental analysis and valuation.
•Identify short-term investment opportunities across Chinese equities, including companies outside the regular coverage universe, and publish concise, actionable investment ideas.
•Assess how China's macroeconomic trends, government policies, and regulatory developments affect company fundamentals, sector outlooks, and investment opportunities.
•Engage with management teams of covered and prospective companies through earnings calls and virtual management meetings to assess business performance, strategy, and industry developments.
•Work closely with the China IPO research analyst to share market insights, evaluate newly listed companies, and identify opportunities to expand research coverage.
•Provide commentary for business media and participate in investor-facing events when required.
Requirements
•Bachelor's or master's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
•At least 3 years of relevant experience in equity research or fundamental analysis of publicly traded companies, preferably at a brokerage, investment bank, asset management firm, or independent research provider.
•Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, including three-statement modeling, DCF, and relative valuation, with the ability to independently develop investment recommendations.
•Strong analytical skills, the ability to form independent investment views and quickly understand unfamiliar businesses and industries, and a strong interest in Chinese equities.
•Strong financial statement analysis skills and a solid understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, or Chinese Accounting Standards (CAS).
•Ability to work independently, manage multiple research priorities, and deliver accurate analysis under tight deadlines, particularly during earnings seasons.
•Advanced English proficiency, including professional financial writing and presentation skills.
Nice to Have
•Experience with Bloomberg, FactSet, Wind, or similar financial data platforms.
•Chinese language proficiency (Mandarin).
•CFA designation or progress toward the CFA charter.
