# About Applied Materials
Applied Materials is the global leader in materials science and engineering solutions that are at the foundation of virtually every new semiconductor chip and advanced display in the world. The equipment we create and service is essential to advancing AI and accelerating the commercialization of next-generation semiconductor chips.
# Responsibilities
We are looking for a highly talented Senior Linux Software Engineer to join our unique Embedded & Optimizations team that lays the foundations for new products that are part of Applied Materials systems. By joining this team you will plan, design and implement software for our future devices and features. Your software will be aware of HW on one hand, and will integrate with high-level SW on the other hand (using modern protocols such as GRPC). As a member of this core team, you will make important technical decisions to ensure the scalability and performance of our applications through code and solid architecture, while being surrounded by a strong technical team.
As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you'll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve customers' high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements.
You will use a variety of languages: C, C++, Python and more, on a variety of architectures: Intel, ARM, different accelerators, and have the opportunity to deal with image processing and even algorithms, with the possibility to advance to a team leader or architect role.
# Requirements
•OOP experience (C++, Python)
•Significant Linux user-space experience
•Strong debug capabilities, self-learning skills, ability to deep dive into unfamiliar areas
•Team player as well as being able to take full ownership and work independently
•5+ years of experience in SW development
•A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree
# Our Group
The Embedded & Optimization team has a significant role in developing our next technological solutions. We are in charge of bringing up the HW of these new solutions and squeezing all the juice out of it. Developers in the team work closely with HW, FPGA, SW and Algo developers.
