About the role
I'm working with a growing specialist insurance business that's looking to bring in a Senior Data Engineer to support its expanding data team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on technically but also wants to work closely with the business, understand its challenges and have a real say in how data is used. The team is small, so you'll have plenty of exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to make a genuine difference. They're currently rebuilding their Databricks platform and moving their reporting from AWS QuickSight to Power BI, so there's plenty to get involved in.
Responsibilities
•Building and improving data pipelines
•Working with Databricks to improve the existing data platform
•Getting hands-on with data transformation and modelling
•Using Python, SQL and PySpark to deliver data solutions
•Supporting the migration from QuickSight to Power BI
•Working closely with teams across Finance, Pricing, Regulatory and Compliance
•Helping the business understand what it needs from its data and turning that into practical solutions
Requirements
•Solid experience in Python, SQL and Databricks, with an understanding of data pipelines and modelling, comfortable working across the data engineering lifecycle
•Good communication skills, ownership, and a hands-on attitude
•Comfortable working in a small team where everyone gets involved and priorities can change
Nice to have
•Insurance experience
•Power BI, AWS and PySpark experience
Conditions
•£80,000–£85,000 salary
•Generous bonus scheme
•25 days' holiday, increasing to 30 with length of service
•Hybrid working, with around one day a week in the London office
•The option to work abroad at set times during the year
•Life insurance and death-in-service cover
•The business has ambitious growth plans, and this role gives you the chance to help shape its data function rather than simply maintain what's already there
