About
bsport provides an all-in-one platform combining boutique fitness and advanced technology. The platform helps boutique fitness partners manage bookings, payroll, and marketing, streamline operations, and boost commercial success.
Responsibilities
•Drive technical strategy and architecture within the team and across the engineering organisation, designing scalable services, distributed systems, and shared capabilities
•Own complex, cross-team technical problems from initial framing through implementation, making pragmatic decisions across data models, APIs, networking, and infrastructure
•Set architectural direction and establish patterns, standards, and best practices for consistent, independent work across engineering teams
•Balance short-term product needs with long-term technical sustainability, making trade-offs around scalability, reliability, complexity, and delivery speed
•Raise engineering standards through technical reviews, design discussions, documentation, and hands-on contributions to critical systems
•Align Backend, Data, Product, DevOps, and Engineering leadership around technical decisions and priorities through influence
•Mentor and develop engineers across teams, helping senior engineers grow their technical leadership and fostering ownership, pragmatism, and continuous learning
•Improve system reliability and observability by identifying systemic issues and driving improvements to software development and operations
•Contribute to the evolution of the engineering stack and practices, including the use of Python, Django, PostgreSQL, AWS, messaging systems, and modern data and infrastructure tooling
•Write and review production-quality code and contribute to the most technically challenging parts of designed systems
•Help bsport become AI-native by exploring the opportunities and risks of AI-assisted engineering workflows
Requirements
•Extensive backend engineering experience, particularly with Python
•Strong track record designing and evolving distributed systems at scale, serving millions of users or handling similarly complex workloads
•Ability to challenge technical decisions across the stack, from data modelling and service boundaries to APIs, networking, and infrastructure
•Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams without formal authority
•Understanding of how architecture, domain boundaries, data ownership, and interfaces affect an organisation
•Ability to make pragmatic trade-offs and treat domain-driven design and interface purity as tools, not goals
•Ownership of ambiguous problems and willingness to contribute to product and design decisions, not only technical implementation
•Interest in mentoring engineers and raising technical standards beyond the immediate team
•Professional proficiency in English
•Interest in having company-wide technical impact and influencing how engineering evolves as the company scales
•Understanding of the benefits and risks of AI-assisted workflows and enthusiasm for expanding what engineering teams can accomplish with them
