About the Role
At IRIUM, we are currently looking for a Backend Developer (Java / Spring Boot) to join an innovative technology project in Lisbon.
Responsibilities
•Develop, maintain and optimize scalable backend applications
•Identify and implement software development best practices and technical improvements
•Adopt AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality
•Produce and maintain technical documentation
•Support junior developers through task specification, technical guidance and deliverable validation
•Collaborate with production support teams, ensuring effective knowledge transfer
•Work closely with Product Owners to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions
•Contribute to code quality, application reliability and continuous improvement
Requirements
•Minimum 5 years of professional experience in backend software development
•Strong hands-on experience with Java 17 or higher, Spring Boot and Hibernate
•Experience designing, developing and integrating REST APIs
•Solid knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL and MongoDB
•Experience with Git and version control best practices
•Knowledge of messaging systems, particularly Apache Kafka
•Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
•Familiarity with Scrum and Agile methodologies
•Experience developing, maintaining and improving enterprise applications
•Ability to produce technical documentation and apply software engineering best practices
•Experience mentoring and supporting junior developers, assigning tasks and reviewing deliverables
•Strong communication, analytical thinking, autonomy, proactivity and teamwork skills
•Interest in using AI-assisted development tools to improve software engineering processes
Nice to Have
•Previous experience in the banking sector
•Knowledge of Document Management Systems, OCR and Generative AI (GenAI)
•Experience with Cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure or AWS

•Salary Range: €2,000–€2,300 gross per month
