Albertine

backend developer for luxury lifestyle services

In short

Senior backend developer role at Albertine, a company building white-label digital concierge platforms for luxury brands, working on a multi-tenant TypeScript API (Hono, Postgres) covering payments, messaging, integrations, and background workflows. The role spans backend-heavy work with some React/TypeScript frontend delivery, API contract design for web and mobile clients, and use of AI coding agents. Requires 5+ years of production backend experience, deep relational database and event-driven architecture skills, B2B SaaS/multi-tenancy experience, and effective remote collaboration. Fully remote, full-time; salary and other conditions are not specified.

About
Albertine builds white-label digital concierge experiences for luxury brands and their members. Its multi-tenant TypeScript API platform powers member-facing concierge apps, an internal operations platform, payments, recommendations, messaging, and third-party integrations.
Responsibilities
•Build TypeScript backend feature slices across the Hono API, using OpenAPI-first contracts, generated types, and integration tests
•Design and evolve API contracts for web, iOS, Android, and partner clients, including versioning and backward compatibility for shipped mobile apps
•Build platform capabilities that scale across tenants, including isolation, per-tenant configuration, authorization, pagination, and query performance
•Model and query data in Postgres, maintaining sound transaction and consistency boundaries while migrating domains off a legacy document store
•Design and operate background jobs and event-driven workflows, including scheduling, retries, backpressure, and observable asynchronous work
•Build and own integrations with payment providers, identity providers, messaging, mapping, and partner systems, including retries, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure handling
•Own the scalability and reliability of shipped work, including pagination, query performance, observability, and sensible SLOs
•Deliver frontend slices for owned features in existing React and TypeScript apps, following existing patterns, the design system, and review standards
•Use coding agents to accelerate work, with clear specs, careful review, and solid tests
•Communicate through design notes, PR descriptions, and async updates
•Improve the product by working closely with its business domain, challenging requirements, proposing better models, and considering growth in volume
Requirements
•5+ years building and operating production backend services, ideally with TypeScript/Node
•Strong product instincts; able to work from incomplete specs, challenge requirements, and own outcomes
•Sound API design judgment, including REST contracts, versioning, pagination, error semantics, and designing for clients outside your control
•Deep relational database experience with schema design, migrations, transactions, indexing, and slow-query diagnosis
•Experience with event-driven architecture and job/workflow orchestration, including queues, scheduled and background work, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency
•Experience with integrations and distributed failures, including third-party APIs, webhooks, and unreliable partner systems
•Experience with B2B SaaS concerns, including multi-tenancy, authentication, authorization, auditability, and scaling across customers
•Production frontend experience sufficient to implement features in existing React and TypeScript apps against an API you designed and pass review by the frontend owners
•Comfortable operating shipped systems, including logging, tracing, alerting, and production incident debugging
•Comfortable with AI-assisted and agentic development, supervising agents, reviewing output, and knowing when to work by hand
•Effective remote collaboration, including proactive communication, async documentation, and direct feedback
Nice to have
•Experience with a durable workflow engine, especially long-running business processes with compensation and human steps
•OIDC/OAuth2, Keycloak, or similar
•Google Cloud familiarity (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, Firebase)
•Familiarity with Vite, TanStack Query/Router, Tailwind, and the shared design system
•Mobile backend concerns such as push notifications, offline sync, and long-lived client versions
•Production LLM-backed product features
•Migrating systems off a legacy datastore without downtime
