Bachelor Thesis: Investigation and Mitigation of Common-Mode Emissions in RFID Systems (m/f/d)

In short

A Bachelor thesis position at NXP Austria investigating common-mode emissions in 13.56 MHz RFID systems, including measurement, analysis and mitigation (chokes, ferrites, shielding, grounding). Open to Bachelor's students enrolled at an Austrian university/FH studying electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or information/computer engineering, with basic RF/EMC knowledge and hands-on lab willingness. Pays a one-time gross payment of EUR 2,300 upon successful completion, with possible add-on payment.

Bachelor Thesis in Collaboration with NXP Austria
We are looking for a Bachelor's student currently enrolled at an Austrian university/FH who would like to conduct their Bachelor thesis in collaboration with NXP Austria.
The thesis topic will be defined in alignment with NXP and the respective educational institution. The thesis requires appropriate academic approval and supervision by the university/FH and will be carried out in accordance with the applicable university requirements.
Background
Common-mode currents can contribute significantly to unwanted electromagnetic emissions in electronic systems. Electrical asymmetries and interactions between different system components can convert differential signals into common-mode currents, potentially affecting EMC performance.
Research Topic
The objective of this thesis is to investigate common-mode current mechanisms in 13.56 MHz RFID systems, understand relevant coupling and radiation effects, and evaluate suitable mitigation approaches.
•Study common-mode and differential-mode current mechanisms
•Investigate potential radiation and coupling paths through measurements and analysis
•Study the influence of mechanical and electrical design parameters
•Evaluate mitigation approaches such as common-mode chokes, ferrites, shielding and grounding concepts
•Validate selected improvement measures experimentally and document the results
Your Profile
•Ongoing enrollment in Bachelor studies of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, information and computer engineering or similar
•Basic knowledge of RF electronics or EMC
•Interest in measurement techniques
•Willingness to perform hands-on laboratory work
•Solid English language skills
For the successful completion of the Bachelor Thesis you will receive a remuneration of a one-time payment of EUR 2,300 gross. Depending on the performance and end-result, an add-on payment is possible.
