Bachelor Thesis: EMI Measurement Environment for 13.56 MHz RFID Systems (m/f/d)

In short

This is a Bachelor thesis position at NXP Austria for a student currently enrolled at an Austrian university/FH, focused on developing an EMI measurement setup and calibration methodology for 13.56 MHz RFID systems. The work covers measurement equipment selection, setup implementation, calibration, uncertainty assessment, and documentation. It requires ongoing Bachelor studies in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, information and computer engineering or similar, basic RF/EMC knowledge, and solid English skills. Compensation is a one-time gross payment of EUR 2,300, with a possible add-on depending on performance and results.

Bachelor Thesis in Collaboration with NXP Austria
We are looking for a Bachelor's student currently enrolled at an Austrian university/FH who would like to conduct their Bachelor thesis in collaboration with NXP Austria.
The thesis topic will be defined in alignment with NXP and the respective educational institution. The thesis requires appropriate academic approval and supervision by the university/FH and will be carried out in accordance with the applicable university requirements.
Motivation
RFID systems operating at 13.56 MHz are widely used in industrial, automotive, and consumer applications. To ensure regulatory compliance, these systems must meet electromagnetic emission requirements, which are measured with a magnetic loop antenna.
Research Topic
The goal of this thesis is to work on an EMI measurement setup for 13.56 MHz RFID systems and investigate both the physical setup and the calibration methodology required to achieve repeatable and accurate measurements.
•Analyze measurement methods and emission limits
•Select and integrate suitable measurement equipment (EMI receiver/spectrum analyzer, loop antennas, cables, preamplifiers)
•Implement the measurement environment
•Develop a calibration concept
•Assess measurement uncertainty and critical setup parameters including grounding, shielding, and receiver settings
•Validate the setup using reference sources and perform measurements
•Document the setup, calibration procedure, and achieved measurement accuracy
Your Profile
•Ongoing enrollment in Bachelor studies of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, information and computer engineering or similar
•Basic RF/EMC knowledge, interest in measurement technology, and familiarity with laboratory instrumentation
•Solid English language skills
For the successful completion of the Bachelor Thesis you will receive a remuneration of a one-time payment of EUR 2,300 gross. Depending on the performance and end-result, an add-on payment is possible.
